Hi guys, first time post but I am looking for an honest review of the CX Racing 64-68 mustang turbo header manifold and down pipe kit. I am very interested in purchasing this kit and then putting together my own turbo/waste gate/BOV/inter cooler setup. Has anyone installed this kit on a 64-66 mustang? The shock towers are really tight on these cars and this is the first kit that I have found that looks like it will work. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

So after talking with CX Racing this kit has never actually been tested on a 1964-66 Mustang. Back to the drawing board from the looks of it. Has anyone just used stock manifolds flipped around and made there own kit for these cars? If so how well did that system work and do you have any pictures? Thanks!

Hedman 88400 shorties are the way to get started on a hot side for early fords.

How is the quality of those Headman shorties? Do the flanges seal up nice? I have a cheap set of Flow Techs on the car right now and they have leaked since they went on the car. Thanks,

Awesome looking build blown385! I have been looking into the Holley EFI also. I don't want to spend all the money getting setup for blow through if Im not going to be happy with it in the end. It is pretty amazing what that Holley EFI systems are capable of and by the time I do a electronic boost controller, guages, MSD 6530 and modify my carb that I have for blow through it seems like it might be a better option to go EFI right off the bat. Did you guys ever look at keeping the shock towers or was it going to be to much of a pain in the ass?

    Hi all,

I guess this is a good time to make my first post. I just finished (yesterday) mocking up this kit in my 68 Mustang notch. The headers and piping fit like a glove with over 1/4" clearance in a few tight spots. The drivers header drops right in, but I lifted the engine a few inches to get the passenger header in...this is the only way it will go in. I have the complete hot side mocked up in these photos. The piping seems to be very well made and the welds look good. I have to say, you couldn't get a set this nice fabbed up for 2x the price. I took the chance myself and ordered this kit not knowing if it would actually fit. The gamble paid off and I'm very pleased. The shock towers are more narrow in a 65-66 car so YMMV. You have to decide if you want to take the same chance. I'm guessing if the headers hit the shock towers on a 65-66, you could clearance them with a hammer and torch, or do a little welding.

I'm working on putting together a complete build thread, so watch out for it if anyone is interested.

These aren't the best photos, but I hope they'll help. This is the driver's side, like I said earlier, plenty of room...more than most standard headers.

The passenger side is much tighter, but is not touching anywhere. My only concern is how close the support brace is to the shock tower, I have new engine mounts which are really stiff, but I'm not sure if it's enough clearance for the engine to torque. I may re-weld the brace an inch or so to the right.

I will be pulling everything out to cerakote so I'll try to get a better photo of the pass side, without the turbo and downpipe in place.

Did you ever get a build thread together Turbo68s? I'm curious to see how this kit worked out for you. I ended up buying the kit, but not planning to install it until this winter.

    Hello,

I was wondering how that turbo kit ended up fitting on your mustang? Did you get around to fitting it? I am looking to do the same with my 66 Coupe. Thanks for the update.

I have a build thread on here if you want to look. Click on the red 1966 Mustang on the banner in the home page of turbo forums. It’ll take you right to the build thread. It took some modifications but it is on and I’m happy with the kit!
