Damn bro, sorry to see this, but lately that seems the trend, people hiring shit workers so they don't have to pay someone what they are worth. Good luck man and you will get it sorted out. I'm still waiting for UPS to decide what they are going to do with my missing 76's, I'm loosing patience.

The guy that did the work had a big background in building a lot of sprint car motors. He had a pretty good resume but obviously things went to shit went it was time for mine. Good luck getting your turbos back. I had a whole prevent roll cage come up missing. How convenient.

He's short handed now. I was going to offer to help if needed to try to expedite it and and maybe keep an eye on things. Lol I've known him for a while and he was trying to get me to do some stuff yesterday while I was there. Who knows he might except the help.

This is one thing I wish people would understand, its not the big fancy shop with all the lastest and greatest equipment and payments, but its the man behind the machine that knows how to use it and use it correctly that counts. I've seen people pay more at a bigger shop because of the name and get less quality of work and plus they make you like it by giving you a free T-Shirt. Remember on clearances if its a little loose you know about it, if its a little tight everyone knows about it. Sorry for your loss.

Yeah, some of the best quality work comes from some of the small old shops. I worked as an automotive machinist 20 years ago, and worked at both a big shop, and a tiny hole in the wall (my grandfathers shop), and was amazed at the work that came out of some of bigger shops...

If it were me, i'd let them clean it, and machine what needs it, and assemble it yourself.... that way there is no doubt about clearances, and how it was put together.

I work at a local engine and cylinder head shop excessive motorsports and moduler head shop and we keep our engine builds down with a higher quality then pushing out 2 motors a day 5 days a week and cut corners on little things that can cause stuff like this to happen. If you need any help with anything let me know on facebook

I'm confused by what you're trying to say. I never said it was a big fancy shop. Its a smaller shop that had the personnel to do quality work. I have seen work produced and seen their engines in action. I was the poor bastard that got the shit end of the deal. I didn't even get in the realm of quality work and what really pisses me off is I didn't even get a t shirt. lol

I'll be assembling this one. Actually I will be more hands on thru out the whole process. I offered to help and he actually took me up on it. I'm shocked and relieved.

That's some shameless plugs Cameron. :) I fixed your comment for you.

How about helping me out with a new set of lifters.....

I ordered some parts last week to take care of some things that I've wanted to do for a while. I've been wanting to get rid of the stock 8.8 pinion flange and the combo u joint, so I ordered a Strange chromoly yoke and a 1350 solid u joint. I also got a Grant steering wheel and a Grant quick release hub. I want to keep the stock steering wheel but I needed a spot to put my bump button and it would be easier to remove my dash without dropping my steering column every time. Just one more step towards "Racecar" I guess. I'm going to argue "Street car" for as long as possible. LOL

I talked to the machine shop today. He's going to break everything down and give it a wash. He'll get everything caged up and get me to come over one afternoon this week to start inspecting bearing clearances. While it's apart I'm going to upgrade the chain tensioner pins and the passenger side secondary tensioner. Thanks to Turboeverything for letting me use his jig to drill and tap the block for the larger pins. I also need to thank Roy for hooking me up with a new set of his oil pump gears and pump. Hopefully in the next month I can have this thing running again.

Sorry to hear about the issues with the shortblock. Just an epidemic of engine-related failures here recently on the board.

So I got a call last night from the machine shop last night. Let's just say it didn't go well.... According to him the trash didn't come from him, the clearances are perfect, but to be a nice guy he'll wipe down the old bearings with scotch brite pad and reassemble it for me. You know, because he doesn't want to ruin a friendship and loose business. According to him, the main cause of everything is because I ABUSED it. I ran way too much timing under boost. Apparently 22 degrees of timing at 13lbs is enough to trash a 9:1 comp 4v on E85. Doesn't matter if your plugs, piston tops, and chambers don't show any signs of detonation. BUT at the same time he says there's nothing wrong with it. Put it back together and run it. Oh, I should quit complaining about the bearings after all it was a running motor and what the hell am I expecting bearings to look like after they have 50 miles on them. They will look like these if he built it or Yates built it. The whole time he was showing me clearances of one rod and one main, he never once took a measurement of the crankshaft. Also the one part that he did blast with media, he never removed any plugs to inspect or wash out.

To sum things up I loaded everything in the truck to bring home. I'm tired of being talked in circles. It's been a long morning. I'll start measuring everything tomorrow and I also want to check the crank to see if it's bent. The center main that was only wore one side has me thinking maybe there's something going on there. Maybe there's wrong with the line hone or the crank. Who knows. If everything looks ok I'll order some new bearings and send everything out to be cleaned again and see what happens.

Due to shop workload the engine wasn't pulled until just last week. Shipping company picked it up on Monday of this week. Probably will be a few weeks at the earliest until the builder has time to inspect and make a determination. I sure hope my experience is better than yours. Sorry to hear about that episode as well.

Man, that is a load of SH.T, pardon my French. I have had motors built by a friend of mine and the initial warm up is the only break in we give it, then dyno pulls to the tune of 1400 hp and never had a problem with the motor like that, and that it is not the only motor we have done. We took the same motor apart a year later and the bearing still looked almost new. Man if it was me i'd stick a crank up his you know what and tell he to clearance that, lol. Sorry to hear about your trouble bro, hope you get it sorted out and up and running soon, good luck.
Man it ticks me of to hear this BS.
