So I have found a couple of lower intakes from a 2000 cobra r, and was thinking about doing something different this coming up year. I am thinking about buying the lower intake and making it fit my 08 shelby motor, then welding up an upper intake for it. My goals is to make an intake lower so I don't have to use a 6" cowl, and have the same power band. Worst case is i use a boss 429 scoop on top of the hood, that I all ready have.
What's your thoughts and or experience on this? I'm not buying a sheet metal intake, and I can't find a Sullivan.

all depends on the cost of the lower.

$750 on a lower plus the fab work, parts & lavor = end up in the $1500 to $2000 after is all said & done.
< been there ,done that> And for that kind of money, HEAVY SHEET METAL or BILLET is the way to go.!<race car stuff>

The Best & cheapest option for your application will be:

to put a COYOTE / boss intake with MMR adapter plates & be done with it with out any issues.

There are a few racer's out there running 7's on the 1/4 mile with this intake combo..

I think running that coyote/boss intake looks pretty cool. Wish I could run it on my 4.6.

The Cobra R is an awesome intake. I guess it depends on your goals. If you are revving it no higher than 7K, it will work very well. It will yield a very broad power band-much more so than a sheet metal. It would be worth 1500 when all said and done for a nice performing intake-especially on a street car!

BTW, I believe the R lower should bolt right onto your heads.

I actually went and bought the lower 2000 cobra r intake. I have sheet metal here to make the top, filler rod and gas. Should be good to go. I built my last sheet metal intake for less then 700$ Including the throttle bodies, I did all the fab work myself. The intake I built, made the power, but it's not easy to drive around with it, due to the hood. Can't wait to start on it, and do a dyno run to compare.

You'll like the power it makes.
