Looking to use a stock style roller lifter setup from a 1992 302, (spider, dog bones, and stock style lifters) in a Dart Sportsman 8.2" block. I currently have tie bar lifters, but the new lifters I want to use are not available in a tie bar.

I attempted to use the stock style lifter setup in the block the first time I built the engine and the lifters pushed the dog bones off of the block. Is this normal? It is a standard base cam. I would like to have my ducks in a row before I tear into the engine.

My old roller 302 had metal dog bones and it did that with just an F303 cam. On my dart based engine I used the plastic holders that hold 4 lifters each and still use the same tin spider to hold them down. I tried to order dog bones from the dealer, but they were superseded by the plastic holders and I didn't feel like digging through a junk yard for a set of metal dog bones.

So you are using the plastic holders? Do you have a Pic?

The spider and dog bones will work on the SHP but not the Sportsman. It pushing them up like you are speaking of.

I don't think I have a photo of the holders, but i remember ordering 4 holders and the tin spider for a 2001 explorer with a 5.0. The holders have a pretty deep cavity for the lifter to slide into as I recall.

Looks like I am stuck with the tie bars. Which Tie bar is everyone using for high rpm use (7500)?

I got the comps on mine, I only go to 7200. Morel's are pretty nice too.

Morel's look good. The racing set I assume. Any info about the warning not to use any oil thicker than 5w40?

I have the Comps but have heard of them failing with high spring pressures. The Morels have a good reputation.
