I've been piecing together parts for a while now and finaly started tearing into the car for the turbo build. This is my first time messing with turbos so please chime in with tech please. Motor is a mild built 289, ported E7 heads and a tiny cam.

Plan: Megasquirt-II EFI with Innovative LC-1 (foxbody harness and hard parts), E-85 (don't have pumps yet), Vic Jr style intake with EFI Elbow, 75mm fox style TB, 83lb injectors, Trickflow BR FPR, china "T-70" turbo (E-USA), china wastegate, overly large FMIC. 4" DP with 4" Dynatech muffler, I havent decided if I want to dump it in the front fender or try running it to the back. Factory 289 manifolds flipped and 2-1/2" pipe to the turbo.

I'm also doing a T-5 swap with a billet flywheel and Spec Stg 3 clutch, hydraulic clutch conversion, MGW shifter, Explorer 8.8 narrowed and 3.27's.

Basically I'm trying to copy what I've seen in some of the foxbody builds. I have backhalved the car and done a ton of chassis strengthening along the way too.

Cool car. My buddy just picked up a 66 that we quickly pulled the inline 6 out of. Ready to follow this build!

Cool car, what are your hp goals? Few things....1. the ebay t70's are most of the time not anywhere close to what the title says so be aware of that, 2. why the fox body harness over the std Ms harness? and 3. if running an up pipe from both banks to the turbo i'd consider going smaller, maybe 2-2 1/4".

I'm hoping for mid to upper 400's. I know the turbos run smaller but I think with it still being a 289 it may work out ok. It'll atleast get me started. I got the fox harness free and the MS and wideband for 1/2 it's retail. I'll keep the 2-1/2" for now, I'm hoping to go stroker motor in a few years after getting this going.

I'm not sure, it came in the rack kit I put on years ago. It's a Randall's Rack

Subscribing. I have a 68 I want to turbo. I decided, for me, it's best to do a IFS and get rid of the shock towers first. I have a 9.2 Windsor and there isn't much room. What are you going to do for headers? Are you just going to swap exhaust manifolds?

Ok, haven't done much at all, just mainly parts collecting. In those parts collecting I picked up some ported Twisted Wedges and now I'm concerned about the port size difference between the heads and the tiny 289 exhaust manifolds. Is this something I should be worried about with my power levels? One option I have is to get a set of foxbody turbo headers and cut my shock towers to fit them. Or do I just port blend the manifolds a little and call it a day? The manifolds fit PERFECT and I've already started laying out the crossover pipe. Opinions? Suggestions?

I also picked up a 3.5" B&G downpipe for an SN95 and it fits damn near perfect.

I am doing the same thing with a 67 Fairlane, bought and tried to fit a first gen Hellion fox kit, even after cutting back the shock towers and installing a AJE front end, the log manifold would not fit, just sold the kit and am going to try a set of Mac 351 swap fox headers facing forward.

Oh man! Good to know, I was going to try and reuse the stock style suspension. I may just port the current manifolds a little the open up the flow path and see where that gets me.

Hedman 88400 Shortys will work for you and they are cheap, I have a set on my 62 Falcon, 1 1/2 primaries and 2 1/2 collectors.

Did you have to trim the towers any? I don't mind a little trimming but the less the better.

Nope they are made to fit a Falcon V8, so a Mustang should be no problem.

Glad that down pipe dropped right in. Tons of room around the alternator helps too.

Cool looking build. I wouldn't be afraid to use the stock type manifolds.

Here is a size comparison of the 289 manifolds vs foxbody shorties. I need to pull a manifold off and measure the port sizes though.
