I got the bulk of the new rear end parts in this week..... Just waiting on spring perches from Calvert racing, and I sent my gear set out to get Rem finishing polished.....

I now have a Moser FAB9 Housing(I really wanted one of these before but I had the stock housing already), Strange Large Bearing Housing ends, Calvert Racing Spring Perches, New 3" u-bolts, Strange Nodular Iron third member, Ford Racing Nodular Daytona pinion support, Strange Chrome Moly 1350 series pinion yoke and a new Richmond Install kit( all Timken Bearings )..... I am still using the same Detroit Tru-Trac unit(it was new when the rear was first assembled, now has about 3 miles on it) and of course the Richmond 3.25 gear I just purchase a week ago(it is currently out getting REM polished).....

I have been checking everything as much as I can..... I did find the face on the current rear end housing that the third member bolts to is atleast .030 from being parallel(is this causing any distortion to the third member when bolted together?????)..... I checked it with a stock third member, the Strange radial rib carrier I was using and the new Strange Nodular Iron one I just bought..... When I put the all 3 third members on the new Moser housing they sit dead flat..... I also put the new bearing on the Tru-Trac unit and put it in the new nodular third member so I could check the ring gear mounting flange for run out, it has less then .001 run out, I se no problem with that.....

I put my alignment jig in the new Moser housing to see how straight the tubes are, they are damn near perfect...... So I cut the housing to length in preparation for the new housing ends to be installed..... I need to get the perches and get them installed before I put the new ends on.....

Here is most of the rear end parts.....

Here is the old housing and the new one in front after cutting to length.....

Since the rear end progress is on hold while waiting for the perches to get here decided to go ahead and get the front bumper on and adjusted..... Then I cleaned up a set of front parking light lenses, assembled the lights and installed them.....

After that I helped a buddy with a front end adjustment on his 65 Stang.....

Here are a couple pic's of the front end with everything installed.....

The perches came today..... I like to weld the perches on and then the ends last to reduce the chance of pulling..... I was planning on getting it powder coated, we have a guy we use for powder coating at work that gives us great deals.....

I got the new rear end housing just about ready to go..... Welded up the new perches, welded a 1/2" spacer on the bottom of the perch, welded some tie down hooks to the back of the perches, then lined up the perches on the housing and welded them together...... After letting it cool down I got out the alignment jig and put the ends on the housing..... Last thing today was to clean the entire housing up..... Tomorrow I will get the new brake lines made, wash the housing out so I can get it to the powder coater Monday.....

Here are the perches with the seams all welded up and then with the tie down hooks welded to them.....

Made some stainless brake lines for the housing today..... I also double check all aspects of the hosing fit..... I cleaned out the inside of the housing and ground the light spatter from the inside where Moser welded the axle tubs in the housing.....

Here it is with the brake lines all mocked up.....

When you weld the perches How do you set up your pinion angle?

Leaf spring cars I would normally put the rear in the car, jack the springs into place and tack the perches there..... In this case I hade the other rear in the car previously, so I measured it before I removed it..... Then made the adjustment I wanted to on the bench.....

Picked up the rear end housing from powder coat this afternoon..... You really can't beat a one day turnaround and only $35.00 to powder coat it..... I also got my ring and pinion back from getting the REM isotropic polishing process done on it.....

Here is the housing and gear.....

Less friction, less heat generated and most importantly less power loss.....

This morning I got the masking off the rear end housing..... Then put the brake block, line and studs in the front of the housing..... I put the housing in the car..... I also assembled the center section and checked the pattern..... It appears the pinion is a little too deep but I was over it for today..... I'll move the pinion in the morning and recheck the pattern.....

Here is the housing ready to go in, then in the car.....

I had to move the pinion out a couple times for a total of .009" to get what I would consider an acceptable pattern..... Just as a precaution I replaced the front u-joint(rear was already replaced) and replaced the rear wheel bearings since I had a set already.... Then I reassembled the rear, blead the brakes and filled it with fluid..... I moved the jack stands from the frame to the housing and checked the pinion and driveshaft angles..... Everything looked great so I started the car and ran the rear, everything sounded normal for a change(no funny clicking noises, shakes or vibrations)..... I rand it in both reverse and forward for about 5 minutes each then I put the rear tires back on and drove it around the block a couple times, all seams good.....

Here is the what the pattern looked like.....

Here the center section is cleaned up and ready to go in.....

Here the rear all together and test running.....
