Messed up. I think its good to have limitations on time, that's been a foundation of English law for centuries, but it's screwed up in this case.

If it was my car in that situation I'd beat that guys skull in if he wouldn't give up the car.

I can't believe I'm saying this out loud but I agree completely. If the cops aren't coming and doing their job on proven stolen property, go take your stuff back. What are they going to do report you stole your car back? lol At the very least the car should be impounded under investigation, and held until the judgement is issued. I don't see why they are sitting around with their thumbs up their asses, it's pretty obvious what is just and should be done. I mean we don't close a murder case if we find the killer 35 years later. Some loop holes need to be sealed or dealt with justly by a judge that isn't afraid to issue true justice for a change. Far to often I find myself disagreeing with laws we are supposed to uphold. Especially if you see a good person that is going to be screwed by it over a scumbag. I can't bring myself to doing that to someone.

From what I read on another forum the car has been confiscated by the police. I assume to be returned to the proper owner. Apparently is is missing some key parts though.

Since the car is registered in the state by the folks who had it stolen from them, take the title, and go have the guy arrested for grand theft auto NOW!! He is clearly in possession of a vehicle still in their name, so take the title, and call local police and file a warrant of arrest for the person who has the car now. Either for grand theft auto or for theft by receiving. Or just call a wrecker to go get it from the guys house, and be standing there with the title in hand when he calls the police for the whites supposedly stealing the car by having it towed away.

Either way, that bastard would be in MY possession and in MY garage LOCKED UP. Or just to piss that stupid bastard off who just paid for all the stuff to get cleared up, take it and crush it and drop the block of metal back off at his house with the vin tag riveted to the outside. Then tell him "here is the car you stole you piece of dogshit bastard" and walk away knowing he wont ever get another moment of joy from it ever again.
