Put a low milage 04 cobra shortblock with new oil pump installed in my turbo mach. I can't get oil pressure on the gauge while spinning the motor. Checked the remote oil filter lines and they are correct. Pulled the oil filter and it started poring oil out before I got it all the way off. So it got more oil to the filter but none on gauge yet. I have the plugs out and free spinning the motor. Does the motor need to run for a secound for the gauge to read oil pressure? Need some advice guys! Thanks

Are we talking about a factory gauge in the cluster? Or mechanical gauge for testing..
Factory gauge tend to not show pressure till engine fires..
Mechanical gauge should be used for this step..
Put gauge on passenger or drivers side front of head by exhaust manifold .1/8 pipe thread port.. And see what you have while cranking..

Yes we are talking about the factory cluster gauge... shouldn't it be pumping oil out the oil feed line when spinning? I will try to mechanical gauge though just to see. Thanks for the info

Yes it should be moving oil out of oil lines. As long as pump primed up. But I will warn rotating engine with no pressure can make cam chains jump cause the slack adjusters are not primed.

I'd just start it. Your prob doing more damage turning motor over and over. If there's no oil psi in 15sec. You have issues. I'd check with the remote oil filter lines. Out goes to in.

I primed my pump by plugging one of the pcv valve ports then using compressed air with a rag on the other pcv port. Safest way to prime without dry starting.

I use a modified 302 Windsor pump with -10 fitting machined and fitted to it. Driven by drill..
Just pump oil out of new jugs into Engine.. Works very good

I use a pump sprayer. Pump 5qts thro it. And start. Normal have oil psi in 5 sec after start up

Thanks for the tips guys. Going to get a tune today for the bigger injectors and go upload to car so I can start it. Does the pump sprayer hook up were the oil pressure sensor is and pump it threw there? Going to try this also before I start it.

I dont think cranking it with the starter will spin a gear rotor pump fast enough to make pressure.

Mine made 35psi no plugs in engine. While cranking.
    Granted engine was well primed

Have same problem and ruin my motor with that.
Crank rpm is not enoug to pump up the oil from sump. I preesure oil in to the oil pressure hole but there was one way check valve in filter so mo pil get to the pump to fill them up.
    Start and you get pressure.

Well ended up using the pump sprayer method to prime motor and loaded a start up tune and busted her off. Got oil pressure with a couple seconds of running. Hope to take it for the gear swap and tune next week.. thanks for all the info guys it sure helped!
