I'm really sick and tired of time warner cable.. Crappy tv boxes that I have to reboot all the time. I'm looking at switching to direct tv.. Anyone on here have them? How well do you like them. Just don't want to get locked in for 2 years and regret it. Local channels are a must.

My friend has it & sometimes it takes forever to reboot when it has to not all the time though. The weather really affects the picture too. I got verizon myself & its not bad.

I have it and weather will piss you off. Thunderstorms seem to be the worst. Havent really noticed anything with the snow and ice. Other than that is seems fine. Like all of them, the sign up bonuses usually expire after the first 12 months.

I have it, can't complain too much for as much as I watch it. The big thing is watch your dish placement, and be careful they do everything they're supposed to on the installs. The people around here seemed to half ass my install. I'd also advise against any sort of roof mounted dish as well. The way these guys work it's just begging to wind up with some form of leaking.

I agree, the installer was late and seemed more focused on whatever he was doing after he left than what he was doing at my house. If you want it installed on a pole that they put in the ground, they are supposed to dig a 6" dia hole and cement the pole in.

I have it and have no complaints. This winter we've had some really bad snow and we've never lost signal.

It might get worse. Heard the other day that TW and Comcast want to merge. Between the two of them, they've both lost bunches of customers. I'm thinking these two are about the most hated companies in the U.S.

All I have with TW at present is internet, not much other choice here, except maybe fiber from the phone co, and not sure they are any better.

We’ve been with them since the nineties.

Expensive, questionable service and we have poor/lost signal during storms. We keep it because everything else looked even worse.

One thing about the installers, we knew a couple of them. They are worked like slaves for very little money. If an installer/service tech comes close to doing a good job we tip them. That said, some are very bad but I don’t think it’s unique to one provider.

DTV dropped TWC (which was great) and got Weathernation which really sucks.

I've had direct TV at my last two houses. The first house the installer showed up in a POS S-10 blazer, looked like he hadn't shaved in about 2 weeks, had no uniform or name tag and looked all-around unprofessional. When he had to put the dish on a pole in our backyard he started bitching about it. Still worked fine.

At my current house the tech showed up in a Direct TV van. He had a uniform and a name tag. He wore shoe covers to make sure he didn't track dirt into our house. He answered all my questions, was polite and courteous, and looked like a professional.

My guess is that it's kinda a crap shoot.

Direct for the last 10 yrs...Repeats on several channels, all at the same time, are getting to be absurd. Some are run, then re-run immediately after the previous run ends. Go far enuf up in the channels, and the same shit that's on lower, is now PPV. WTF is that about??
This is bullshit that we, as customers, have no control over.
Recently, there was a movement to force the providers to allow the customers to choose the channels...We all know how long that idea lasted.:swear:

There's so much BULLSHIT programming on, I'm about to dump all of it, and go w/ local only. $60/mo for crap is crazy.:upset:

I have DTV and for the most part I am happy with it, it is expensive but I rarely have issues with it. The DVR is great, I can record my favorite TV shows and watch them in my garage when I am out there. I have the same issue with storms, but I switch to the DVR and watch something if bad weather comes.

I have DTV and we love it. Service has never cut out on us during storms or anything. Heck last year there was a tornado just a few miles from the house and we still had the tv on, getting service, listening to weather updates.

Like others said, it's kinda pricey but def worth it IMO

Satellite and cable are on the way out. I switched to online streaming several years ago after 20 years of satellite service with DTV. DTV was OK but cost too much and the trend has been to add new channels with some new content that you have to pay more for to get what used to be in the more basic packages. Same with Dish satellite AFAIK. So you end up paying more and more to get the few decent shows that used to be in the regular channels.

Streaming services seem to be getting better all the time. There is a lack of automotive shows though. Not that there was much good on satellite anymore either.

I have DTV and am OK with it. I have HD and DVR service. I will say that my DTV is WAAAY more reliable in bad weather than my previous TWO cable experiences, once with Comcast (the worst) and with Charter. Why do they drop out in the rain too? At least with the DTV it only drops out when the tallest part of the front passes though. If it happens (maybe once every 5-6 months for 5 minutes?) then I just flip to the DVR and watch one of my many hours of recordings.

Other than the 200 BS channels I will never watch, i'm happy with it. They are the same as Cable assholes in that they require you to buy a bunch of cocksucking bull fucking shit channels to satisfy their coffers while I pay through the nose for God damned Oprah TV that will never, ever play in my house.
