I haven't been to the track. I just sold my mickey MT's, sidewalls were too stiff.I want something that's " street legal" but a super soft sidewall so I can get some wrinkle.

I'm leaning towards Hoosier quick time pro's. Ideas?

Car update. Went to Omaha's Ice Cream cruise and got 17MPG!!

Big issue though, found out the damn thing is burning a quart every 200 miles. You can see a puff on heavy decel on the HWY. Doesn't smoke on startup, or in boost. No oil coming from the turbos. All cylinders are within 8 psi of 155psi. Engine has 1000 miles on it since the rebuild, machine shop thinks it's from going to synthetic at 900 miles that did it. It didn't start burning oil until after a week of running synthetic.

I personally think it's the intake valve seals. Machine shop had to remove all the intake valves to machine the heads and didn't replace the seals. I just don't get why it took so long to start burning it. IDK, it's getting torn down during winter time anyways. Just frusterating.

Whoa why you tearing all the way down? Pop some seals in it and see if it goes away. Have you switched to dino oil yet?

Easy to replace the seals first then do some testing. Cheap, quick, easy way to know if it is the issue prior to the full tear down.

The manifolds need to be recoated, intake is seeping, still have that bubble issue under prolonged boost. So it's not too much effort to pop the heads off while I'm there and replace gaskets.

Well I had a little issue with a crack on the right side manifold where the wastgate tube connects to the manifold. Rewelded it up with bracing and good to go. Also change to a non protruding style plug.

When pulling my old plugs, found some obvious signs of detonation. I believe the oil burning issue is causing the engine to detonate. With e 85 I've never heard the engine detonate and I turned timing down 5* from my dyno run.

Let me ask you, when using head studs instead of head bolts, can the heads be removed with engine still in the car? Or do you need to pull out engine when pulling a head off?

You can just take the studs out then pull the heads off.

Well boys, another " ahhh fuck" moment.

Pulled the heads off to check a few things off and get new valve seals in the head and found what I didn't want to.

5 pistons look like the ones below.

I got insanely lucky, all the pieces blew out my wastegates and didn't damage my exhaust wheels. Since I only run 6-8lbs, most of the exhaust goes out my wastegates. You can see a few pistons kissed the heads. The engine was burning oil heavily also, but the oil was coming from the bottom of my intake, being sucked up into the runners. Which is why the pistons have burnt spots on them.

After talking to a few people, I think the machine shop built the engine too tightly, rings pinched and took out the pistons. I'm verifying that this weekend.

Everything is for sale. I just sold all of my 2.3 turbo stuff for a project I wanted to do this year. My clutch, shortblock, driveshaft are also for sale if anybody wants to buy anything.

That just sucks man, I'm sorry to hear that... Looks like the rings are intact so you should be able to measure RG and shove it up the machine shop's ass if they had them too tight. Thats a 4.030 bore right? I'd say anything less than 0.022" is too tight.

Got the shortblock out and torn down. Top ring was .020, 2nd ring was .024 and found shiny spots on ring ends. So yep, machine shop messed it up.

I'm not even going to try with them, I know I won't get anywhere.

To make it right, they either need to give me money, or buy my new pistons. I won't let them rebuild it, even for somebody else.

I guess I could give them a call, not sure how I would say " you guys fucked up my engine " nicely.

That fucking blows!!! I'd be willing to donate to the "New Pistons" cause. If we all gave $5 he'd be well on his way to a new set.
