From what I see on S197forum, around 800HP. There is some evidence the blocks start cracking around 1000HP. JPC, MMR and JPC have some work arounds for the issue.

My issue with the 8.2 deck blocks is the cylinders are too short. To make enough power with a 3.1 or shorter stroke you need to spin it that much harder wich may have an impact on the power level these blocks will live with. Maybe things have changed, but the boss 302 blocks i have used really hung the piston out of the cylinder at bdc with anything over a 3.1 stroke. I quit using them and started just going dart blocks.

What engine are you talking about so it's clear? SBF based or the modular Boss 302 ?

Everybody I've talked to said don't go higher than a 331 with them because of that. I Know Ford sells them as 347 crate motors. Don't know if they've fixed that problem either.

Boss block 306, F cam, 80mm turbo, 8.7 - 8.8 @156 spinning to 6700. Using a cheap a/a, 220deg temps. Switching to a/w now hoping for 8.50s. Dont know how much hp but assuming over 800.

You can do a big bore 347, which is a 331 crank/ rods, but 4.125 on the bore.

I think that's what the Ford crate motors are now that you mention it.

I was interested in doing a 347 or 363 with a 4788 turbo but some of my friends only talk about Dart blocks. Never hear anyone mention Boss blocks

Boss blocks aren't bad other than the short cylinders like you've heard above. That and I've heard you have to run a certain type head gasket on them. Other than that that's all I've heard negative about them. On the other hand I've never heard anything negative about the Darts..........

For that ci, then a dart would be the better choice.

The Boss pretty much just replaced the R. I've heard of people turning 1200hp with an R but don't know if that's pushing it's limits though
