    Hey everyone,

I have a 2002 Camaro with the LS1 and I'm looking to do a budget turbo build. I came across a cheap H1C on eBay and want to see if it would be worth buying for a rear mount setup. I have very modest goals, nothing more than 450-500 hp.

    Thanks

I would suggest looking for something bigger.

You could make it work but you will have little to no headroom to grow with that turbo.

H1C will get you to around 400 at the wheels on a less efficient (read:more on the map) engine but with that engine making 300HP or so on its own you'd want something significantly larger.

Thanks for the information. Which of the Holset turbos would be the better option?

Look into a hx52 or hx55 maybe. But theu are bulky, heavy, and perform better at higher pressure ratios. If you are going budget and want only 500hp pick up a gt45 and do front mount. Rear is neat idea but more headaches and maintenance plus can be difficult to match the turbo to motor. The gt45 has been known to do 600-700hp, well over your goals should u want more... which u will. Boost is a drug, and once you get that itch.....

I wish I could do a front mount but I'm in California and I can at least get by likely telling someone it's an STS smog legal setup. Front mount will not pass smog for sure.

Depending what you're looking for, the gt45 may work for a remote mount... Search Denmah, and his 4.8 2010? silverado. It was driven a bunch, and ran low 11's, high 10's with a little n2o.

You sure that truck had nitrous?

Go with a gt45 for a budget turbo, without a doubt.

Pretty sure it did, at least for awhile. It wasn't much (60-75 hp), and I could be wrong, i'll have to go look now.

I read through again and I didn't see anything about nitrous with the gt45. I may have just missed it though.

I went through it again, and found the same..... the Q trim they ran an 80 hp shot, but looks like nothing with the gt45. Either way, the gt45 worked well in a remote mount on 4.8 liters.
