So, now you have decided that a turbo is the way to go, where should you buy yours from???
That is a question that you have to answer for yourself by deciding which kit is best for YOU and your car. The following is an unbiased list of all turbo kits that I know of that you can buy new or used. Good Luck!

Note: this list is very out of date and should not be relied upon. For all of the latest feedback please check the turbo kit feedback section of the message board.

    Cartech Racing:
    1026 Grubb St; San Antonio, TX 78219 Phone (210) 333-1642, Fax (210) 333-1749

The Skinny: 87-95 Single turbo-intercooled kits and race turbo kits. These guys are experiencing an increase in demand lately because Mustang owners are starting to see that turbos are pretty cool and just as easy to live with as a supercharger. At the end of January 2002, Cartech Racing Products was bought out by Cartech Motorsports. This means that Cartech is under completely new ownership (Corky Bell no longer owns them) These new owners (Preston and Mike) are still getting things sorted out and things are looking up.
9-17-02: My experience with the new Cartech was very positive. I was never lied to regarding anything and when mess-ups occurred I was creditted and parts where shipped overnight on a few occasions. I give their customer Service an A, the product a B, and their inventory management a D. Preston has told me they are working on a completely new inventory system so that kits will ship correctly the first time.

Kits: The 87-93 "Street Sleeper" kit comes with just about whatever size and brand turbo you want, up to a T76 or so. Any bigger than that and you will be getting the "race" kit. The 87-93 kit comes with a 3" downpipe standard.
The 94-95 kit was recently completely re-engineered ad now features a 3" downpipe, 2.5" crossover pipe and 2.5" IC piping All kits come with everything you need for the installation.
Cartech also offers huge HP dominator and thumper style kits for the guys who want to make over 950hp. Call them for info.

Pricing: The base street sleeper kit starts at about $3995.

Pros: Once your parts arrive there are no complaints about the parts themselves or the performance. Cartech will also build the kit around any turbo that you decide on. Since being under new management Cartech has been doing an excellent job with customer support.

Cons: The only knock against them is their long wait times, and failure to deliver all the parts correctly on the first try. They are trying to fix this problem right now by completely re-doing their inventory system.

6-2-03: I talked with a distributor of Cartech turbo kits and he has ordered 7 kits in the past few months and each kit has been delivered in full within 31 days. Looks like they finally got their new inventory/ordering system in order.

Ford Performance Solutions: 1004 E. Orangefair Lane, Anaheim CA 92801 Phone (714) 773-9027

According to their ad in the NMRA magazine they sell turbo kits. I recently received an email from a shop who ordered a turbo kit from FPS. They told me that the kit is actually a Cartech kit that FPS orders from Cartech. So it appears that they are not offering anything unique. If you have more info please contact us.

HP Performance: (no website yet, I listed an email address for them instead) Phone (505) 623-2555 added 2-13-03

The Skinny: This is the kit that has been tested and featured in the Jan - June 2003 issues of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords. Jim from HP has also been active in many discussions on the forums. The street kit looks very good, the MM&FF test engine made 779rwhp with the T66 upgrade @ 13psi.

Kits: 86-93 5.0 Street Kit- Here is a summary of the fox body kit straight from Jim: The base fox body turbo kit consists of 1 3/4'' primary tube headers in 14 guage mild steal. The flanges are laser cut 3/8''mild steel. The primary tubes merge into a 3'' collector, from there a 3'' cross over tube y's into the other collecter on it's way to the turbo. The spent gases then go thru a 3.5'' down pipe which splits into dual 3'' after the transmisson cross member and then connects to any cat back that is in the factory posistion. Starting from the turbo discharge on the cold side, a 3'' tube connects the turbo to the top of the bottom flow intercooler from there it goes thru another 3'' tube into a C&L (blow through) MAF and then to the throttle body. All tubing is mandrel bent on a 5'' radius. All tubing is jet hot coated except for the tubing in the fender which is not seen. All connections on the exhaust side are made using v-band clamps. On the cold side we use 3ply silicon hose fastened with t-bolt clamps. The kit comes with a Holset/Garret hybrid we make in house(T60 max 650-700fwhp), a deltagate, bosch bypass valve, sn-95 electric fan, 255 intank pump, C&L 76mm mass air, and injectors of your choice up to 42lb. All accessories can be kept except for the smog pump.
5.0 Race Kit- Requires the use of tubular k-member, no accessories, 5" DP, custom IC for your car and large turbo.
    4.6 1996-2003- Currently in development.

    Pricing: 86-93 5.0 Street Kit : $3995 5.0 Race Kit: $3300

Pros: Thus far the kit looks great. "Blackminitubbedlx's" car just put down 634/767 and went over 130mph in the quarter on the street kit @ 18psi with a basic HCI combo. They guarantee the order will be shipped within 14 days or you get 15% off the price you paid. They also promise to always keep 5 kits on the shelf.

Cons: The smog pump has to be removed on the 86-93 street kit.

    Incon Out of Business
9-17-02: I would not attempt to order a new kit from Incon. They are out of business and many people have been waiting for kits for many years.

The Skinny: They made 87-93 and 94-95 twin turbo (intercooled) kits and they had been in development on the 96-01 4V twin turbo kits for a few years.

Pricing: They aren't taking new orders, Pro M has been telling customers that they will no longer calibrate Incon meters. You should be able to pick up a used kit in the $3200-$4200 range.

Pros: OEM quality, water cooled, ball bearing Garrett turbos. From what I have seen on the net and in person this is a very reliable kit that makes great power. My friend Harold drives his daily and he made 505/495 to the wheels and he is running the stock 8 psi. There is also quite a few guys on the internet running these kits and they can offer lots of tuning and install advice.

Cons: Once you find a used kit buying extra parts will be a PITA since Incon isn't around anymore. The installation is also a major project that requires you to notch the frame, but any body with automotive skills can complete the install in their garage.

    Innovative Turbo Solutions aka ITS
    (937) 533-1730 or (937) 604-2775 added 5-7-02

The Skinny: Carson has kits for many different makes, models and years.

Kits: The base kit is $2500 and it will support 500hp. It comes with two T3's and an intercooler plus all the piping you need. There are many different upgrades that you can buy, including bigger turbos, bigger IC, etc.

Pros: The kits only come with the turbo related items, so you can pick and choose which MAF and injectors you wish to run.
9-17-02: I have gotten more customer feedback on ITS and so far all of it is positive. Carson seems like he is doing a great job.
1-21-03: Feedback on ITS remains good. Carson is also active on many internet message boards and always very helpful.

Cons: Seem to be experiencing delays in shipping kits.
5-27-03: There has been some negative feedback on ITS reported on the message board.
7-25-03: I am sorry to report that there has been a large number of complaints regarding the quality of ITS kits and their customer service. For more information check the message boards. Here is one thread. and another.

    Cons: Out of business.
10-22-02: I have been getting more and more negative feedback on TDC lately. Apparently their phone lines have been disconnected and they are not returning emails. If you have more info, please email me.

    TTI- Turbo Technology Inc.
    6211 S. Adams Tacoma, WA 98409 Phone: (253) 475-8319

The Skinny: 86-95 Single and Twin Turbo (Intercooled) Kits. They offer street kits and race kits. The 87-93 race kits require you to remove the AC and powersteering. The race kits are making huge power.

Kits: They only offer the 60-1 hifi for their 94-95 kits. It is possible to go with a larger turbo, but it requires some "custom" fabrication.
TTI also offers big HP race kits, call them for more info.

Pros: They tout their ability to deliver COMPLETE easy to install kits in under 1 month from the order date. They will build the kit around any turbo your choose, T-76, T-66, etc, etc. Everyone I have heard from received their kit within the 3 week delivery time.
9-17-02: I have yet to find a customer who was unsatisfied with their experience. Everyone gets their kit complete in a timely fashion.

Cons: I haven't really heard anything bad about these kits other than the prices. When I called I was told that if I wanted anything over a 60mm turbo on my fox body that I would have to get rid of the AC and power steering.
