I've been reading here for a while and putting together parts over the last couple of years, and this winter I started to put everything together. I finally got around to getting a FAST system installed which will make the tuning a lot easier. The goal is to make it to Epping in April when the track opens.

    Chassis
    1988 LX notchback mustang
Driven in Michigan and New England (got some rust)
    6 point roll bar
Tremek TKO w/23 spline input shaft
    Currie 9" with Strange axles
    3.70 gears
    Spec Stage 2 clutch
    255 lph Walbro
    FAST XFI system

    Engine
    342 stock block
    Probe forged pistons
    h-beam rods
    cast crank
    AFR 185 heads
    TFS stage 2 (Crane) cam
    0.545/0.565 lift (I/E)
    224/232 duration @0.050 (I/E)
    Ported Edelbrock Performer RPM intake
    60 lb/hr Siemens injectors

    Turbo
T76 kit from HP performance turbo with missing parts
scrounged an 0.81 A/R p-trim turbine housing from Comp Turbo

So here goes, just to see if I can post successfully. The car is apart with the nose off and the inner fender liners removed:

Got the old exhaust system out but had to resort to cutting the Hooker headers out. I never liked them anyway. Here is the kit:

Update -- done trimming up the engine compartment, rewired some things which were bothering me and installed the headers.

Next I need to get the downpipe to fit. I had to source and exhaust housing from Comp Turbo and it is not the same as the one in the kit. The Comp housing is nice -- the transition between the 3" turbine exit and the 3.5" exhaust pipe is machined really smoothly so I want to use it. I'll need to get the downpipe tweaked at an exhaust shop and get the pipe re-coated.

awesome, installing the same kit on my 89 hatchback. my kit has manifolds with 3" spacing, so i'm ordering heads on it.

Running a GT4502r, and will be running the Holley HP EFI tuning system.

Picture of the passenger side header (finally!) installed.

Maybe this image link will work!

Got most of the piping installed last week, now I need to add about an inch to the downpipe to move it to the left so that it will clear the drivers side header. More pictures to follow...

Thanks for the previous info -- I needed to enable the img tags in the new photobucket site. Their interface is much fancier and a lot less useful, but it is still free.

Down pipe fits, but not with the rest of the exhaust system...

I've got some tweaking to do. I'll probably change the angle on the pipe that runs along side the starting motor.

    It might cure this problem.

The angle on the lower pipe isn't right, but I think that is the easiest fix.

It is 28 in-oz imbalanced. The flywheel works for both, I just need to remove the weight.

Since it's stock, I'm looking to keep it under 550 at the wheels. It made 330/365 at the tires on motor with 9:1 compression, so 10 psi should put me about 500. But I'll need to be careful. If I get a block I'll turn up the boost some and see when the clutch gives out.

It's mostly street driven with occasional track days.

    Gotcha.

The strokers put a bit more load on the block, so definitely make sure that tune is spot on.

What clutch you running in the car? I got a RAM powergrip HD for now in my TKO600

EDIT: nevermind went and reread the parts list... I did have a Spec stage III in the car, but really enjoy this RAM clutch much more.

are you going to take any weight out of it?

It was fairly light from the start -- I bought it new as a no-op without air conditioning or radio. I've put weight into it with the roll bar, but I'm most likely going to replace the stock seats and hood with lighter ones once I get the thing driving again. It is 3050, according to the scale at the local gravel pit, though they are used to weighing much bigger things than mustangs. I'd like to take a couple of hundred pounds out, it would probably let the clutch live a few minutes longer.

I wish I could get my TA down to that kind of weight before I sit my 240lbs in there...good luck with it!

I'm not saying anything, but my car is over 3250 with me in it...

Got the welder fired up last night and tweaked the angle on the lower exhaust tube. I'll need to mark up everything tonight and maybe get it cut before adding an inch to the downpipe. The right inch, of course. My welds are pretty ugly right now, but they seem to be holding.
