arp head stud failure

Well I found my issue yesterday. I had a couple arp head studs fail. They stretched allowing the gasket to leak. I swapped to factory bolts again. I thought it was my fel pro blue gaskets but it was the studs that caused the issue. Never once thought the studs would have failed but they are clearly defective. I'll try and post a picture tomorrow. Was running a forged mach 1 engine on 12psi. Boost would build to 12 then fall to 8-9 and flat line the dyno curve. Coolant is clean and so is the oil. It was a very small leak. I had fel pro blue gaskets and arp studs.

You double check your torque specs that were used? We're they brand new?

Torque on the arp card was 80lbs. The steps were followed. I had my torque wrench checked out as well and it was spot on. Only a few of the studs were faulty which makes me think they had a defect.

For what they charge for a stud i would damn sure call them and send in the bad one's and let them test them.

No the water did not stop. I'm running gm Orange coolant as it works better with aluminum. It's not coolant its just condensation. What can cause this in a heavy amount. Could this be watery ethanol fuel vapor?

Well that was the first start I brought it up to temp and that was about it. I guess I just need to drive it and see if it goes away.

Must be the on3 kit, lol Like Randy said they will do that but after a few minutes it should stop after the heat dries the exhaust system up.

I take it the car has been sitting for a while if you had the motor out and the heads off.

I've done a head gasket change before and the car blue some much condensation out I couldn't believe it. It looked like somebody turned the hose on in my drive way. My stomach sank. Just for grins, I ran it for 20min or so and it went away. It took much longer than I could've ever imagined to clear up.

Yeah it sat for a month or so. I drove it to a dealer for an alignment. It all cleared up. Now my boost gauge stopped reading. Lol I guess I gotta work out all the bugs. I still haven't finished tuning it. It's driveable but on the dyno last go around she lost boost to the gaskets and studs.

Were they the arp 2000 studs or the cheaper ones? There is a long thread on modular fords about the arp studs stretching. I think arp gave the guy some new studs. He could feel them stretch when he was torquing them down.

Not sure on the studs if they were 2000 or not. I will post a regular link tomorrow on the videos. Today I found the source of my exhaust condensation. The little pcv breathers I had were not breathing. I removed them and everything cleared up. Tomorrow I'm going to rig up a standard catch can and breather.

Thinking back these did not have a solid feel to them either. But they did reach torque.

For arp I thought they had a lifetime warranty. Free is free.
