Hey guys, just trying to get some different home brews that people use so please post up your best home brew tire prep. Goat pee, wd-40, trans fluid with creosote what ever works for you, if you've never tried tire doping and you have a traction problem try ya little. Put your tires out in the sun get-em good and hot spray ya little wd-40 in one spot rub it in with a rag then spray another coat in the same spot let it dry then rub your finger across your tires and feel the difference. This wakes up an old set of slicks or any tire, if your afraid try it on an old tire first. OK whats everybody else use?

HAHA unrelated but my first car was a big old lincoln contenental with a 460, anyway I was all excited and cleaned it all up inside with armor all including the gas and break pedals. Funny as hell my feet would slide right off. Wondering how the wd40 reacts with the rubber to make it tacky? I always thought guys would use wire wheels to rough up the surface?

Any oils based product will seem like it brings rubber back, however its actually breaking it down. Have you ever seen a rubber hose that has gotten oil on it? It expands and looses its properties. You can actually score a rubber hose that has been in oil very easily with a fingernail. I wouldnt trust that on a tire. I dont know if it will happen to a tire, but its the reason why you have to use certain hose for petroleum bases materials.

In short I would be scared to use oil based product on a tire... but again this is a guess, not from personal experience...

OH come on your saying you wouldnt put OIL on a tire and go do 150 down the quarter? lol

they say be careful when even buying new tires that the mold release can cause a tire to lose traction

I would think the material the wd40 softened would come right off during the burnout.

Ask anyone that races on dirt which is the fastest, I know were talking on the street. Each day goes by your tires are drying out getting harder I'm not saying put it on new tires just saying try it on old tires before you replace them if you can get a few extra miles and soften back up. What are you doing when you do a burnout your heating the tires to make them softer I'm talking about softening them chemically so you don't have to waste all that rubber heating them up to get them soft. If your on the street and not at the track with all that Track Bite sprayed out you would like to have an advantage so put the track bite on your tires before you go out. Would you drather have hard tires or soft tires on the street? Ever tried acetone you buy at Lowes? Just trying to see what anyone else uses instead of buying the expensive stuff track bite, problend, track claw etc... Google" tire softeners".

The guys I know who race dirt track sip there tires by cutting grooves in the tread. I believe the offroad rock crawler guys do as well. If someone poured aceatone on my 250 tire I would punch them in the face. Pour some acetone in a Styrofoam cup and see what happens that is nasty shit I think one spark from your tire would set your car a blaze.

They sell it at your local sporting goods store to put on the bottom of your basketball shoes so you wont slip on the court my son bought some it comes with an applicator on the end of the bottle. When he came home with this stuff I said let me see that stuff what did you waste your money on? Looked at contents and it was acetone, I think he bought it at Dicks Sporting Goods. So if it will soften your shoes it will soften your tires also. Yes it is strong stuff but ask your Dirt Track buddies why its against the rules to apply this stuff to your tires, because its an advantage, they also put it inside of tires before mounting not as easily detected.

Back in the old days they used to pour some bleach in front of the tires for the burn out .

Just trying to see if anyone had their own formulas with good success. The commercial brand tire softeners can go for as much as $150.00 a gallon problend hot lap, I noticed Jegs sells some for $40-$50 gal. different brand. All the power in the world wont do you any good if you cant put it to the ground remember 2ND place is the first looser. Yes bleach was used years ago that's where the term bleach box came from everyone at the drag strip would roll through then do your burnout now they use water only. Come on people share your knowledge, what little tricks can you share that makes you fill you have an advantage over your competition that they are not doing besides spending more money?

I was detailing my car once and after putting armor all on my tires, I really noticed how nice they look. So I decided that I was going to armor all the treads so they look brand new. Things didnt go so well after I left my house in the rain with the traction control off and tried to drift.

(No I didnt actually do this.)

Hehe... when I was a kid we would spray wd-40 on the back tires of our bikes so we could slide them like crazy. Makes sense about it softening the tires and whatnot, but it made our tires stupidly slick... and fun!
Anyway, cool thought. Also, I always thought it would be neat to have a switch that sprayed vht on your tires when you wanted traction and another switch for water if you wanted to do a burnout. I just figured I was crazy and nobody would really do that.

That Pimp Juice looks like some sticky stuff. Do we have any chemist in the house that can come up with a recipe that we at home can try ?

Just get some industrial strength glue and cut it down with Tolulene. Once you get it runny, you've got some fairly cheap and extremely effective tire dope.

Toluene makes excellent octane booster and is cheaper than race gas, just don't breath the fumes. Methanol would evaporate to quickly, toluene will take the paint off of you car, do not spill on your car.

My father worked for NASCAR for many years before he opened his own business building racing engines I have race dirt track half of my life we made our own Tire softener take a 5-gallon jug 4 gallon kerosene 1 gallon lacquer thinner 1 quarts transmission fluid depending on what you're using it for but I used to take my race tires they were a little older couldn't buy new ones half the time so I was running out on hand-me-downs but I would set them out in the sun take a paint roller and put on Tire wrap with paper towels soak the paper towels really good and put Saran wrap around them keep checking with Tire softener gauge to get them where you want them you can make them soft rubber or just a little softer to bring back the tire guaranteed it works

I race unlimited modified dirt karts, and I’ve found that goo gone will make my Hoosiers extremely sticky.
I’ve tried the name brand softeners, and keep going back to the goo gone.
I’ve got some that I’ve mixed with rubber rejuvenater that I got from a print shop that I haven’t tried yet, but I’m hopeful that it’ll soak in faster.
