Hello all, I'm working on swapping a 3.5l LX9 V6 and a 5 speed transmission into my 1985 Pontiac Fiero, which I plan to twin turbo. right now, then engine is stock, other then the custom mid length headers I am making, 1.625" primaries, approx 22" long, going into 2.5" collectors which reduce to a 2.25" exhaust pipe. the stock motor produced 200 hp and 220 ft lbs. I'm not looking to make a million hp, but just scare all the V8 and 3800 sc guys a bit... I want to do a twin setup for packaging reasons, I can hide two smaller turbos easier than one large turbo. could you guys recommend a pair of turbos? I would also prefer something I can easily upgrade to a larger turbo later when I do a full build on the motor.

    Thanks for any help-

    Eric

I forgot to add, the car is being built on a budget, the turbos will probably be JY or ebay specials, and yes I know the pick 2 of 3 rule...

how about 2 turbos that came in an eclipse .that would probably be your best bet. Alot of 4 cylinders came turbo. early dodges like daytonas, omnis, caravans might b a good source also, 4cyl turbo tbirds with automatics might work for you.

How much boost? I could see the DSM turbos working to about 450hp, the SS turbos would generate 500+ even using stock power levels. If you're bumping the boost up I wouldn't be surprised if they're 600hp capable. The question is if your engine is of course.

probably no more than 10-15 pounds, it depends on how much fun I have! as far as the engine is concerned, if it doesn't take it, I'll buy another, I only paid $150 for it.

well, a friend has a cobalt ss turbocharger for sale, I think I'm going to go that route, but how much do you think I should pay for one with W/25K miles/no shaft play?

    Thanks-

    Eric

You using the Getrag or the Isuzu? I KNOW the Getrag will hold a ton of torque/power, as I've been using one for years on a SBC conversion. I don't drive it gentle by any means, and I'm hard on it sometimes, yet it makes no complaints.

Going to be a nice ride!

Getrag F23, look at an Isuzu and you lose second gear... The car is a mutt, cavalier transmission, G6 motor, 65mm shortstar throttle body, 4x4 S-10 front wheel bearings& axle stubs (on the rear) Corvair hubs (on the front) 1995 trans am rear brakes, 2001 trans am front brakes, 1994 Camaro wheels 1987 fiero shifter 1993 Pontiac Montana knuckles, custom headers and much more.

well, I'm thinking I'll either go with twin TD04's, or the cobalt SS turbos does anyone know the actual designation for the SS turbo?

    Thanks-

    Eric.

Twins are twice the work why bother...? I'd use the factory grandnational turbo charger or a pair of them if you must do twins. They are cheap and sized correctly for that engine. I have 2 I'd let go cheap if your interested.
