So I began to install the 400 and all went well until.it came time to bolt the trans brace to the trans, the crossmember I was given makes the motor lean back much further than when the 5 speed was in it, and when I say much more its about 3-4 inches........what are you guys using? I heard of people using t56 braces, does that work?

I welded like a 3" riser on my cross member for my 400 swap.

I did the same thing - works great. I did have to move the stock cross member forward about 1" though.

I understand this is a 3 speed auto , no overdrive. How does it work for street driving ? What gears are you using and what staal converter? My car is a 50/50 street track car and Iam looking at autos that wont break the bank. Thanks

drivability is fine as long as your not trying to go down the highway all the time, mine has 3.73 gears and it will zing around the 3,000 rpm mark on the highway to keep up with traffic, but i chose to sacrifice that for the pros associated with it.

i have 3.27's and a pretty tight ucc convertor and i cruise the highway even at 60mph at 2000 rpm :2thumbs:

Mine sits around 2800 with the 3.27's in the rear going 60 down the highway. Going to swap in some 2.73's and try that or go to a 3.08 (have both) to get it down a little bit. But I street drive the car 90% of the time and currently it'll break the tires loose in 3rd gear at pretty much any speed. So the longer gears would help with that as well
