Dont really know where I can post this. Since im not a member of any 4 banger site I figured ill ask here.

Looking for my next project and came across a datsun 1200 for sale.
Contemplating on installing a b18 or b16 engine on the trunk. BUT I want to keep the back seats and the only way it would fit is if I slant it, otherwise the trottle body will hit the top of the back seat.

Im thinking the only way I can make this work is to make a custom oil pan and move the oil pick up there so I wont run into oil starvation and the gforce wont splash the oil back up the engine. But what about the engine? would it ran slanted? or will I be running into issues?

    what do you guys think?

I have attached a pic of what I want to do, Im assuming that the axle on the fwd must lined up with the transmission like a rwd diff lined up with the wheel axle.
This seems to be the cheaper option for me vs buying a ca18det and going 8.8" rear.

and also anyone have PERSONAL experience with a-to-w IC for street driven car?
I have read both mix reviews, 1 being that it will heat soak on long drives so I was thinking of mounting 1 a-to-w ic then followed by a small a-to-a ic. The reason is that the back of the datsun wont have room for air to cool the IC so I would have to mount a small side air ram. but hoping that both will cool a 400whp beast.

just tossing ideas around for my next project.

no not yet I blew the head gasket at 18psi. wanted to run it at that to make sure when i compound boost it, it will hold. so now its apart again, contemplating on just getting crate block all together or rebuild it since im guessing my block needs to be decked anyways.

but i may end up selling the car, i just got a house with a 2.5 car garage so now im able to build something a little bit more extreme. couldnt do that before cuz i rented and only had an open carport. :welder:

anyways I attached another pic of how much it will be slanted. any ideas?

    thanks

Why not put the motor under the hood where it belongs, wht the trunk. ?

One of the best 6s made was the slant 6 plymouth.

Not going anything past 5 cyl. it will add way to much weight.

Car is already front heavy adding a 6 or 8 with turbo piping and ic will make it way to front heavy that traction will be hurting with small tires.

2nd it will be way cheaper. My only other option for a rear end is a solid 9" or 8.8 or r31 to handle the power which will cost me around 2500 give or take. Ca18det is lightest and easy engine which cost roughly 1500 with trans.

Add all custom little things and prices goes up a whole lot.

Now with mid engine I'll save major weight since trans is diff also.
Should give me better traction. And way cheaper. Like 2500 cheaper from the start.

Only other issue might be oil drainback from the cylinder head, but that can be dealt with.

^^ how so? I mean how would you fix that?

I just realize the transmission angle will change will this creat a problem for the gears lubrication?

X2, biggest issues will be oil sump and oil drainback.

I was typing the exact same response! With it installed like he's showing, that mofo will be a ROCKET going backwards!

Now I thin we should have kept quiet and encouraged him to build it and find out the funny way....

What He is saying here is to put a 4cyl under the hood. He's not telling you to put a Plymouth 6cyl under the hood.

So why not just an SR20DET or some such that is already RWD and Nissan? Easy to turbo and can make full retard HP.

But it would still be front wheel drive!!?

F20C. S2000 drivetrain in that little tin can would be a blast. And with all the morons doing 2JZ swaps they aren't that hard to find...

If i remember correctly they lay the engine back a bit when they do a H22 swap in civics.Wouldnt see a problem with that. u may have a problem with the oil in the pan not reachin the pickup. u could fix it with a custom pan, or just add 2 extra quarts of oil :D

lol you guys are so picky. I couldnt find a pic of the other way around so i did the best thing. just an example of where its planned to be.

but im scrapping it now. drain back issues wont make it work.
