DSM blocks don't crack. Period. (Unless a rod goes through them).

Luke, I'd burp the system. Just pull the cap and let the car run for 15 mins until it totally heats up. Make sure you have a 180 therm in it.

Water pump could be going bad, especially if it's an original one.

    well here is an update.
i didn't get a chance to work on it today, but the guys were at it all night last night.

now we have reached this conclusing
immediately after you start the car, pressure begins to build up in the cooling system. after about 10 minutes, there is enough pressure to open the cap and start pushing coolant out. the temp stays totally normal during this untill it runs out of coolant to push out.
tried it with a stock thermostat, 180, gutted, and none.
we initially only thought it happened on the highway, but infact we could get it to reproduce this at idle.

they tried SEVERAL burping techniques. they let it run forever and put a huge funnel in the fill full of water. let it warm up, turned it off, started it, let it run, turn it off. still the same thing happens.

    did another compression test. PERFECT

i guess it could be an air pocket. but god damn why has no other car i've worked on done this? and why after boiling over so many times has the air pocket not been filled?

maybe tomorrow i'll try pulling off a heater hose, and putting a hose in there and try forcing the water in.
    god damn this car
