I recently got the car tfs headed turbo car up and running and tuned but i am having problems with the car lately. I am getting 200psi at start up for oil pressure and has blown apart one fl1a and one wix filter. What is causing this super high intial start up pressure? I also have the oil pressue sensor installed in the side of the driverside head. using an aerofoce guage with their sensor kit. dunno how accurate it is. I am using the melin cobra high volume oil pump.

Second I did a WOT pull tonight and the car died at the top of 3rd and won't start again. when i uplug the MAF it will start (running like #### of course, but it will srart) So i figured it was a bad maf, i borrowed my buddies maf thinkin that should fix it and it didnt, does thesame thing as my old maf did after this wot pull. i am using a stock maf in a 4 in tube with a diablo mafia on it, i tried bypassin the mafia and still nothng. i am pretty bummed any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I have a build thread for more specs on the car. i am completely stumped rite now, seems ay problem that can happen i get. the thread also haspics for refrence with how i run my pcv n crank case, i am thinking about putting a catch can on the car and running a restrictor in the turbo oil feed.

    thanks again

For the oil pressure it's the pressure regulator sticking unless you're using 20-50w or something heavier. The Melling and MMR Huricane bleed off pressure at 90-100psi when cold.

My first thought on the engine would be to do a leak down test or atleast a compression check. Sounds just like my buddies engine when he burnt a few piston rings. 2 cylinders had 30psi. the maf dominates the a/f ratio so unplugging it allows the computer to run in default and reads the o2 sensors that make the car run somewhat with a dead cylinder or two. Hope this isn't the case but atleast it's a place to start.

when we tune cars at the shop , we clock the metters til we find the best spot that works on the tune....<this is on car were the meter is not longer at the oem location>

how your tunner got arround that with the meter flange welded at thast location.?

what were the maf counts at the tune secion.?

I installed a gt oil pump spring in my cobra/tss billet geared pump to drop the oil pressure, but keep the higher flow.
Stock maf electronics should not be used on your car.....

seems like a good idea with the pump, are the springs diff? or do u think i sould replace the meling spring with another one?

    what electronics would u use?

i cant think of nething else that would cause high oil pressure

Ok well i spent quite a few hours working on the car today trouble shooting, i have tried every combination, 3 diff chips, 2 diff pcm's, 2 diff mafs, new plugs, n bypassed the mafia, i tried all these every which way.

I also compression checked the motor and it has 160-180 across the board. i still dont see any vaccum leaks, all charge piping is good.

What i did find out is that the car is running on 4 cylinders when there is no maf, and its all the driver side cylinders, i swapped coiles and injectors all around and tried again, same thing all the driver side cylinders are not firing. so to me that said all injectors n coiles n are good themselves. i pulled the driver side valve cover n cranked the motor and all seemed fine, all looked fine, the chain seemed good from what i could tell.

this all tells me that its not a mechanical thing, to me its pointing to some weird electrical problem, unless the crank gear broke, but again i think i would see that or would hear it n the chain would be messed up ect. i also think the crank sensor would be damaged n it didnt seem to be.

when the car runs with no maf it seems to be back firing through the intake

weird thing is this happened at a wot pull on the street, that seems like it would be mechanical.. but the motor seems to all check out mechanically.

so this is where im at, i feel like its something electrical n not mechanical but i have no idea where to go from here.

well, pulled the intake and found this:

got that figured out, now i need to pull the oil pump and see whats up with the oil pressure issue, if anyone has any ideas on the high oil pressure issue lmk.

    thanks

A little JB weld will fix that right up...

Time for the edelbrock intake to be installed.

The gt oil pump spring was a little shorter and weaker than the cobra one. I believe it was Ed Clark that had posted this swap to have the higher flow without the extra pressure.

My stock PI intake blew out just like that several years ago.

got the oil pump off today, the plunger in the pump under the spring was stuck, so im gonna scotch bright it and work it so it slides better and put it back in

now i need to find an edelbrock vr jr intake, lmk if any of u see any for sale

who has used the edelbrock intake? how does it fit? do you like it? will my fore rails fit with it? and what elbow/tb did you use?

actually i just cleaned up the plunger so it slides in and out nicer but once i put it back in and i put the spring and allen head bolt back in, i can put a screw driver in and move the plunger up and down when it now has the spring pressure on it but once i take the spring and allen headed bolt back out the plunger doesnt just fall out it seems to get pushed down further from the spring/bolt pressure and gets stuck where it wont fall out again, i know someone mentioned using a stock spring in there but why does this meling unit/spring it comes with not work? how does it seem like im just having this issue? and how come the 4v guys are not having this problem with this pump, if i have a problem being a 2v, so should a 4v guy, correct?

i figured cleaning up the plunger would help but i am concerned once i put it back together i will have the same issue unless this is normal?

    please let me know

ive shattered an oem pump gears with a stock balancer once n lock the motor up on the freeway so once you have that problem i want to run billet gears
