Car is a 66' Mustang with a low comp 289, longtubes. I have a Garret GTP-38 off a 7.3 Powerstroke. Is this able to be used in a remote mount single set up or am i wasting my time? I was thinking a y-pipe after the headers and a merge to a single 3" to the turbo and run 2-1/2" back up the carb.

It should work pretty well but might be a little laggy on those cubes and being remote mount. Guys have run them on 5.0 stuff before so you could search and maybe find some info.

Is that the one with the internal WG? If not I would recommend finding one of the .85 housings for the 94-97. If it was close to the engine I'd be less worried but it may be laggy otherwise.

It does have the internal WG. Now, I bought a vacuum style boost controller, will that work fine for this? I know they are set-up for fairly high boost but can I knock it down low enough around 10psi?

I've looked in the past but have been unsuccessful on finding those builds. I've been told they norm make around 400-450hp. That would be nice.

Look for TP-38. The compressor is basically teh same dimensionally. Unless of course you're talking about the BB aftermarket unit. If that's the case it's another beast entirely. Should be a hell of a lot of fun on a 5.0 and make a good bit more power. What do you mean by "vacuum style boost controller?" If it's an external waste gate than tack welding the other one shut or otherwise blocking it off should be fine. If you wanted to use it you may be able to modify the "can" or use one for a low boost vehicle.

That boost controller will allow you to run the stock boost which is set by the wastegate actuator, or you can turn it up but not down lower than the actuator. I think you need a different actuator to run less boost or an external wategate, not sure but the powerstroke probably runs too high of boost with the stock actuator.

Like draconic said just weld the internal WG shut and put an external WG in the pipe before the turbo and you'll be golden. Then your boost controller will be useful.

i'm running the non-wastegated tp-38 on my camaro @~9psi. it's a remote mount set-up on a 10.4:1 350 (lt1) and it spools quick, i do have an aftermarket .84 a/r housing on it however. the stock 1.10 a/r was quite laggy, i had a ton of exhaust leaks at the time though. on a low comp 289 it'll probably be laggy, but it'll work

The later ones are .85. He should be a lot better off. I have a 1.10 one here I want to d osomething with eventually. How'd you do on power with it though?

not sure what my car puts to the wheels, made 278whp before the turbo and was running 14.1's @~98mph. added a ton of weight to it (already a heavy convertible) so it's probably ~4000lbs now and last time to the track i trapped 114mph when it was still hot out here (damn arizona). was running 13.00's that night with 2.0-2.1 60 foots. if i had a high stall and could actually launch it i'd say it could easily hit low 12's high 11's. my best et is 12.9@105 on a 2.0 60' and no boost in third gear

so i'd say ~400whp. and it pulls hard all the way to redline, doesn't seem to be anywhere near the limit of the turbo. i've hit 12psi a couple times on accident and it pulled ridiculously hard
