I have been building and driving a camaro as a daily driver for five years, it's quick but not fast. N/a sbc went 12.21@110 1.71 60ft. Iput together a 478 BBC, not finished, but all forged, low compresion, dart pro1's. I'm needing some direction were to go from here. I'm looking at the comp cams turbo cam, flat tappet 637 lift.
My main concern is to get the correct SINGLE turbo.
The rest of the car is a th400 with a 3500 stall, ford 9" inch w/ 3:90 gear.
Iv been told the s480 is to small. And yes it's on a budget. I don't need anything crazy, I just need it to work.
    Any help is great.

Based on the info you supplied I am going to recommend you get something between a 44 to 106mm turbo.

Thanks for narrowing it down. A 44mm? Is that per two cylinders? Lol
look I'm new to this, and need to find an affordable turbo that isn't going to choke me out. If you need more info just specifically ask.
    Thanks

Fine then I'll be cooperative. We need to know the following:
    1. how much power you want to make
    2. either how much power your engine makes N/A or cid (you said 478) with engine speed at which peak power will occur
    3. whether you want to favor low end and quick spool (street) or favor the upper end (drag only)

I recommend twin t4 for the packaging. Yes, its a little more expensive, but you don't have a huge, heavy turbo to place, and you don't have 5 inch downpipe to place, and the exhaust is not choking up ,plus the spool is better on two small twins.

Depending on your goals, two t70s or t76s should do well, considering that a pair of thos will flow enough to make over 1500hp

    I'd like around 900-1000hp
    7000rpm MAX
top end power, for the track
I'm open for single or twins

Local guy I know has a 496 BBC in his 69 camaro. Think he uses Twin T70's and made 809whp on a blow thru carb on just 10 psi. Mustang dyno. I put down 640whp on same dyno on 12.5 psi on my twin T60 401" sbc and have run 9.86 at 141 with just 14-15psi so his car will ride the F*** out.

Doesnt have a real big cam, think it only peaked by 6100-6200 rpm. He's on this forum I hope he chimes in on his setup.

So For a mild twin turbo BBC, 1000hp isn't hard to reach?
I would love to see the engine bay of a tt BBC 69 camaro. Does he have inner fender wells still?

Some pics. I dont think 1000hp is all that much out of a big block

That is sick. Is there any link I could see/ learn more about this car. I need to knoW intercooler placement, oil supply location. I'm going to check the true street class rules at my track, I think it's limited to single no larger than 88mm.

Well the class I want to run is limited to a single 88mm. Garret has a gt88 for around $1300 I'm looking at. Any thoughts?

it'll choke the crap out of that motor, if you want to class race on an 88mm limit you need to stay SBC.

So the question is... What is a cheap turbo that will be efficient for my motor?

I've seen 454ci BBCs with single T4 turbos do 750+ hp with relatively small inducers (around 75mm) and low boost (8lbs), so there is no reason to think a t6 s480 would be too small for your goals. You should be able to hit 1000hp with it without spinning the engine to the moon.

Forced inductions has some Borg Warner (AKA Airwerks) turbos with 88mm billet wheels that move some serious air. Check out this page and talk to Jose or some vendor from here on the phone and you will be rewarded greatly.

The s480 was the first turbo I looked at for the BBC, what would be better, a big or small a/r?

go with the 1.32 turbine a/r, you have more than enough cubes to get it spooled quickly and don't want to choke it too much up top
