so far Skinny's RX7 is the only stock bottom end 5.3 in the 8's i've seen, and an ALL stock 5.3 won't do it unless you fill it full of lead and drop it down a mine shaft. for starters the head gaskets won't live though the boost levels it takes..

    you got links post'm.

One guy i met that is supposed to hold the full size street truck record is pushing 22-24 pounds on a 5.3, said he got the tune just right, was going to push it and see if it blew but said the tune just happened to be right.

Not exactly true, "skinnies" should not need any more than a stock 5.3 with a cam/spring swap to run a 8.80 at his weight.(2600 lbs)

We have been very close to an 8 with stock head gaskets and TTY bolts, in a 3400 lb car, this same car went 5.95 @117.7 in the eighth before blowing a hose of at the 1000' mark to still run a 9.37 at only 132.
That run I set it up to come off of the brake at 14.5 lbs boost, and ramped to 18 lbs with only 18 degrees timing on E85.

The next run we left at 14.5 lbs boost and ramped to 19 lbs , but broke the 1.76 gears in the powerglide when the boost came in, with a VERY stock 6.0, only changed the cam/springs.

This was a 6.0 liter with truck manifolds and a precision 88(to see the car check out page 33 of the jan 2011 HOT ROD), not a 5.3 but still had untouched factory head gaskets, and bolts. This car was 3410# on a cert. scale at one of the track on DragWeek, I don't remember the track we scaled at right now.

i'll admit you guys are the kings of making cheap junk fly, what did the nova run with the twin 70's?

We never really got to find out what a Junkyard 6.0 would really do in the Wagon. Also the Turbos are/were twin 61 precisions, but may be twin 70s this year.

The fastest the Nova went was on DragWeek, 10.00@133, because I don't have an NHRA licence, any faster than that and the time slip would be invalid for the event.

I did go 6.36 in the eighth at 14 to 15 lbs boost, not spectacular, but it is 3850 lbs with me in it.

The plan was to turn it up on the last day, to see what it would do(like we did with Mike's car), but we broke a ring land at the second to last track, On the one and only run on for that track. Looking at the log it showed the fuel pressure dropping. After investigating the fuel system,we found the "post" fuel filter was clogged, and that is what lead to the hurt piston.

So we drove 200 miles to the next track on only 7 cyl. and then made an "easy" run to finish the event. waited for awhile, then went back out with all 8 firing again, and pushed the damaged engine Hard, and it broke bad after the second gear shift. Number 7 piston was gone!! nothing but wrist pin, and rod in that bore.

And haven't finished fixing it since Sept. 2009, but this coming season Mike's car will be out, the Nova will be out, and we will be helping Jim work on his new Project Car.

We may still see if we can get an eight in Mike's car with the stock stuff, but his car and the Nova will likely be forged engines, with ERL blocks or LSX blocks, before DragWeek next year.

How many pounds were you hitting the 6.0 with?

On the two 6.0 liters we have run, Mike's Mustang , and My Nova Wagon.

Mike's 6.0 was about 18 lbs, on the 9.37 run. this was with an older smaller 2001 z06 cam.

The wagon 6.0 has hit 23 lbs accidentally before, but most runs on DragWeek were at 14 lbs. The run would start with a peak of 18 lbs off of the line, because the 4l80 did not have a Transbrake at that time so we were spraying 100 shot for about .4 of a second, then it would come down to the 14 lbs of boost that we were commanding. That would get us a 10.0 under 135 by letting up right before the finish line. The wagon had the bigger 2002 z06 cam so it is a little different than all the other Z06 cams we have run.

I went 145mph 1/4 this weekend on a 2003 LQ4 with stock rods, pistons, crank, bearings, blah blah blah, 216/216 cam at 3300#. Nowhere near fastest or quickest but decent for a $750 longblock. 115mph to at 1/8th.

that's a bit too technical don't you think? I have to pull my heads off to change the lifters. So i guess it won't be a stock longblock either?
