I am wondering if I can get by with driving the car on the street without mufflers.

I have heard cars at the track and they have a lot of air noise but seem relatively quiet.

If i reduce the 4" downpipe to 3" a few feet from the turbo and run the 3" out the back of the car, do you think I will still need mufflers.

    The motor is 512 cid.

If your running a big ass motor you don't want to downsize to a 3 inch single exhaust that's for sure.

Sorry - 2 turbos - dual 3" pipes out the back.

Open downpipes would be too loud for me on a street car. You can try to squeeze in some bullets if you don't have room for mufflers.

Everybody tells me mine is too quiet. I like it quiet. It has Hooker Max-Flo mufflers which are oval straight through. I think my car with an open downpipe is about as quiet as flow masters with dumps on a normally aspirated car. Try it, it is not too hard to add mufflers if it is too loud for you.

A full length tail pipe will help a lot. My hatch was stupid loud inside with a bullet and a dump.

This is my Single S465 remote mount. I still have my longtubes, 3" Y, 3" into the turbine, 4" down pipe with a 7" long flowmaster outlaw series muffler that does nothing other than give me something to say i have a muffler. It's pretty loud.

goto my build thread, last post I made has two vids, one is open downpipe and one is a dynomax 3.5inch straight through muffler. makes a huge sound diff with no backpressure. my old setup was n/a with two flowmaster 10 series(race single chambers) and the straight through is a lot quieter with the turbo

your 2liter pepsi motors cant even compare to a monster 512 inch big blocks thumping around.

my 306/76mm is stupid loud (and awesome sounding) with a 3" dp going to 3.5" under the car and a 3.5" bullet turned down right before the axle.

Ok, so basically I need to keep the 4" in/out Stainless Borlas (with 3-1/2 reducers at each end) that I had on my NOS motor to keep the turbo motor respectable on the streets. Drat-was hoping for nice quite vacuum cleaner noise with the turbos and straight pipe.

Now I need to find two oval 4" 90-degree elbows to get the downpipe under the floor (round won't let me get close enough to the ground) with round/oval adapters at either end.

Of course at the moment I still have LOTS of room under the car.

I second this. Exhaust all the way out from under the car makes more difference than any muffler.
