Its definitely gotta get back underhood of something! It would be a hoot to cam it up with bigger turbos and something retarded like a direct port fogger system eh? :stupid:
It needs to make more power and exceed what its already done. Its funny to think how close it got to the 8 second zone and after already defying all the odds, you KNOW it could do it!

If i can find some time soon, i'll drag it to my home shop and do a teardown with detailed photographs. Ive been wanting to magnaflux the crank to see if its cracked or totally cherry. What if it all checks out? That would mean it was nowhere near the break point and theres more left in it right? Heh Heh :D

now THAT would be interesting to see , i mean the whole idea was to lean on it till it breaks , i like to see if sumtin came close to that so i know wat to replace to make it more solid without breaking the bank

I vote a sleeper build....or a heavy tank...no problem with room for turbos..since they need to be bigger to make the grenade pull the pin!!! :D  :2thumbs:

No new/faster times I was not really trying to push the car. I was just looking to try and get a 1.5x 60 foot that didnt happen tho :'( its still doing the same thing dead hooking at first then unloading the tires.

I'm still playing with my grenade. Nasty weather and working 2 jobs has kept me away from the track. I am making headway on my debt and feeling alot better about seeing the end of the tunnel. Also not doing my sales work anymore. full time wrenching and repairing. I take tech phone calls is about the only thing I still do for my old sales position.
Working on industrial Hot Melt Adhesive application equipment for the full time job and fixing motorcycles/atvs/scooters for the part time job. Busy at both for the moment.

My new engine that is to replace my stocker is still not done! I'm ready to kick the machine shop in the ass! My parts have been there for 6 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the block has been there 1 year and 3 months! I bug him at least once a month to get a move on!

But I am thinking of selling my turbo 74' Monte Carlo and turbo'ing my 4X4 truck I bought last year...

Kinda in limbo til this economy straightens out and we get rid of the idiots in office.

This seems ridiculous. I think it might be time to find a new machine shop.

Damn i need to check this thread more often. Im surprised its been going on this long to be honest! but its still cool.
Dude keep the Monte. Its cool and has a TON of potential to go fast.
Sounds like a problem with shock valving to me. Or the track just plain sucks once you leave the gate. A lot of times, if you add dampening to the rebound setting on the rear shocks and slow the hit, it can make a big difference once your 10 feet out and the tire gets over too big a sidewall shock and stands back up.

yep I wouldnt doubt it I have a few things fighting me now... one my TC is about tost its slipping around 20% up top now resulting in a gain of only 20mph from the 1/8th to the 1/4 (23-25 mph is my normal gain). Secondly I have to run air bags to keep the tires off the lip till I can get time to roll the fenders, not much pressure but it almost feels like the car bounces off them although its hard to tell in the car. Third the shocks that are on it have around 65k miles on them and they are just regular billstein*sp* shocks not really for drag racing.

Give me a few weeks I'm making multi-able changes to the combo stepping up to 80 pound injectors, 67mm turbo (p trim), and adding a dump pipe so I don't have to go threw the mufflers. Suspension wise I am changing to adjustable upper control arms and hopefully a set of single adjustable strange shocks for the front and duals for the rear. Also swapping in a different built 200 4r trans along with a new converter (think I am going non lock up but not sure yet.) Just hope I don't wind up in the poor house with this stupid car :stupid: :D

We'll see on the Monte but money talks....But nobody has any talking to do it seems. Its still running strong, and suprisingly fast. for what it is.

Glad to see this post is still alive, though a bit on life support with the economy still in the tank, nobody having any money to throw around. Get those bums out of Washington I agree with, all these regulations is not helping jobs develope with all the uncertainty. On a sad note I am having to finally part out my 95 TA due to rust in the frame and pretty much everywhere else that is key to structural soundness. Good new though is all the good stuff is heading to my 85, and sales of stuff that is selling from the 95 allowed for buying a vic jr intake, a pro 5.0 shifter and a UMI chromoly pan hard bar. Hoping to have it together enough to drive by end of summer, but depends on how much the rest of it fights me, and the sale of the restr of the sellable parts. Had one guy call about my headers, then that night my add got pulled off of Craiglist and flagged....what gives........thought I had a line up on another gm4 turbo for 75 bucks too, but that didnt pan out. Sadly no job yet either and unemployment ran out too.....ugh!

Yeah the economy has definitely put a pinch on my fun money too. I just got done doing a motor swap for a buddy so the big ol' CADDY is back in the garage and ready for some quality time by me assembling the engine.
Cant wait to see if that big diesel turbo spools better with the new cam installed! Long live the Preying Mantis!

Good to hear from you Hillbilly, I just assumed you were playing with motorcyles or something else completely. Deffinately glad to see you back.

Marty, after 5 years I finally got my 3rd gen to the track last night. I don't have any neat-o times or numbers because I was just trying to check A/F numbers but it feels fast, faster than anything I have been in before. Thanks for all of your help and advice, it helped me get my car going :2thumbs:
