I have what I thought was a HX55 now I've been told it has a HX52 flange. Is there a way to tell what I have by the part numbers on it? I really do not want to take it apart to measure everything right now. I tend to "loose things" when I get them apart at times if I don't fix it right then. IT came off a M11 Cummins Engine. It is tagged as Kit 3803570HX Assy 3531772 S/N 1229455 with a Holeset data plate. If it's a big as I think it is I'm going to feed a BB with it a lower RPMs, 5000-6000 max. Thanks for any help you can give, Floyd.

    Are you sure?

The only turbos I am seeing for the m-11 motor are the HX60s, which incidentally would be perfect for a street 460-480" gas motor.

This afternoon I was looking a flange to build the manifold with and I scanned a tracing of the mount to a company and they e-mailed back and said it measured like a HX52 flange. He sent me a drawing of the measurements for a HX55 and the wide, front to rear measurement looked the same but the L/R was a lot narrower. I'm sure it came off an M11, I took it off myself. He told me Cummins was bad about swapping housing for differant applications too. I searched a Holset site and could not find any numbers matching the ones on my turbo. It's a Cummins Recon from what I've found out so far. I just E-mailed Cummins to see if they can tell me what I have. I may post an ad on CL local and see if I can find a used turbo off an old small cam pre Formula series Cummins. They were 2100-2300 RPM 855 CID engines instead of the late model Formula series and NT-88's and such that were down to 1700-1850 RPM 855 CID engines. I wish I had the CPL number off the engine I got it off of. I used to work for the Cummins Distributor here, the parts people there cannot even find the right Start/Stop button for an ONAN RV generator when you give them the model, serial, and spec number. I got real good at looking up generator parts. I want one that'll be lazy on the bottom end and come up on some boost around 2000-2500 RPM, it's a lot easier on the bottom end of the engine. Thanks for looking around, maybe I'll find out some more things to help others out. Floyd.

I guess I need new glasses, I just enlarged the picture I took of the turbo, it's a RX not an HX at the end of the first set of #'s. RX is a reman number. I'll do some more checking now.

I just did some more surfing, I found an Ohio Stae auction site that had the same part# listed 3803570RX as a core for a "88L10" as a H2D turbo/ Does that sound right? What is a H2D, what flange does it have?

Here's a reply I got back on one of my inquiries about this turbo. Says it's a H2D, what will it be capable of feeding?

    Floyd,

You have a H2D Holset Turbocharger. Below is your nearest authorized Holset dealer and they can better help you with parts and availability.

Can you tell what I have? HX52 or HX55 or what?
Do you have an exhaust flange for it?

    Not really sure . . . I have a ht60 on my 466bbf. I haven't finished putting the motor together yet but its a 77mm inducer, 98mm exducer exhaust. 1.32 a/r . . .

Never found a compressor map but looking around on here and a couple of other sites it will work great for what I want to do (~850hp, 6000rpm max)

I know the H (number) (letter) are the older models, pre-96 I believe later to be superseded by the HX series.

I guess measure it and post up what sizes are the inducer/exducer for both wheels.

I just got this reply back from another place:

You have an hx55 and to our knowledge no one has built an adapter flange for that turbo for any other application.
    High Tech Turbo

How hard can it be to figure out what I Have? I'm still waiting on Cummins to reply back.

What it is really doesn't matter. Measure it the inducer and exducer and we can at least ball park what it will be good for.

take both the coldside and hotside housings off and measure the top diameter of the wheels and then the bottom diameter of the wheels.

The coldside should be very different. Probably around 75-80mm while the bottom part that is otherwise hidden under the housing (cannot see with it on) should be quite larger. The exhaust side shouldn't be too different from the top to the bottom.

I did take it off a M11 engine, not to say someone put the right Recon turbo on the engine, but here's what Cummins Engine Company says.:
    Floyd,

Per the assembly number that you provided, the turbo appears to be a model
    H2D for an LTA10-270 engine.

What do I have, a HX52 or HX55? It came off a M11 Cummins. I do not have
the CPL # for the engine.

Why not just call Holset or a Holset dealer, give them the part number and they will tell you what it is. Go on Holsets website, look for dealers around your area, and just start calling all of them. Thats what I did to find a downpipe flange and rebuild kit for my H2E since everything is discontinued.

Oh guess I was too late but after a little searching myself also came up with it being an H2D.
    (#'s listed in numerical order)
    http://www.turbomaster.info/eng/catalogs/model.php?base=holset&pagina=H2D

I am not sure exactly what the H2D compares to, but I have an H2E and I know it is basically an older version of the HX50. I took off the housings to i could measure the wheels on mine, instead of just going off what everyone else said it should be.

Here is where I purchased some of my accessories for my turbo. i got my downpipe flange, clamp, and flange gasket from here. They are very knowledgeable about these turbos and are helpful on the phone so dont be afraid to give them a call and ask some questions if you need to.
