I have a 1966 HiPo with an old stlye Paxton and a Demon 650 Blower Carb:

When I drive it, it does well at speed, but coming into traffic or street lights, it dies and is flooded. You can smell gas, so letting it sit gets it where it will start again. The wife says that she could smell gas in the exhause driving behind the car with a constant amount of smoke coming out of the exhause. The car also back fires from time to time.

Keith at Southwest Mustangs says it is to much carb for the car and that I should put a smaller Edlebrock on it. I hate to yank the Demon off it, if there is something simple like smaller Jets. Any thoughts??

I run a 650 Holley on my basically stock 302 without any issues.

It sound like you just need to do some tuning, but youll need a wideband first. maybe try a new power valve first, if it backfired it could be blown.

I would recheck float levels first then try screwing the mixture screws all the way in and if the engine dies the power valve is not blown.

Glad to see you made it over here, Todd. Hopefully, these guys can help you out. I'm an efi guy, so unfortunately I'm about as useful as a doorknob on a frying pan. :)
