Well, I must admit... I honestly skipped to the last page of this thread looking for the post where the turbo blew up and toasted the engine. Apparently that is no the case. So let me get this straight... This same turbo that was in the original post has been going for two years now with zero problems making good power????? So much for the cheap Chinese turbo theory.

 

Which link are you guys using to get to this turbo. I cant find anything when I search for "gt45 y2004k".

 

Just search for y2004k, with the Include title and description check box checked. There are two of them on there now.

I am not sure if the other GT45s on there are "y2004k" ones, but they are chinese turbos.

Can't believe it's been two years And no, the turbo is in fact still new in its box (shame on me) but there is proof that this is a good turbo and that it has been used in a good number of projects that haven't failed catastrophically as they supposedlly had to.

 

I will keep the cheap chinese 62-1's (who's compressor wheel actually seems to meaure the same as a V1/V2 trim compressor....). I did trade off my 454 cast crank for a 427 forged crank. 7.2:1 compression now and 440 cubic inches on a fully forged bottom end now.

well i finally took the motor apart just to see why it had so much blowby... well i found out why... it was because most of the pistons looked like this...

GT45 china turbo still working good though right? update on it, mileage track passes ect?

 

Just gonna throw in some cheap forged pistons and run it as is?

 

yep.. new block because the old one had a crack in one of the cylinders so now its getting some trw flat tops and some plasma moly rings on some X rods and back to messing around

 

no track times yet.. and only has about 150 miles on the turbo and yes it still good

 

a lil update on what i got finish as far as today just need some more money to buy gaskets and stuff

just got one of these for free and man i am anxious to get it in my ls1 anyone running a single on a ls1 346?

 

i just got mine installed on a ls5.3 stuffed in a s10. so far so good. runs good and spools pretty quick. i used a tial knockoff blowoff valve and ss auto chrome wastegate. we are just working out the spring for the wastegate and tuning now. we built about 11psi so far and it works good. we made a homemade boost controller using an air pressure regulator for a paint gun. trying to do this build budget and with stock parts. the 5.3 has 6 liter heads and that is all. we are planning to spray it to help cool the air. didn't have enough room to mount an intercooler. this thread and website has been very informative for our build. i knew nothing about turbos before this project. i will keep this thread posted as we test more.
