So we went to the standing 1 mile race in Miami yesterday.

Pretty Cool, (except the temp it was in the mid 90's and sunny) decently organized. Racers were to arrive by 9 am, spectator gate opened at 9am, we arrived at 9:30 and it took about 15 minutes pay ($5 per head), sign waiver and park. We walked the pits and said hello to friends / customers then hiked it out to the track. Basically there are two parallel runways, the runs were done from east to west and the other runway was the return road so after the mile the cars / bikes had a 1.5 mile shut down. They were using a radar gun for the speed recording and from what I heard it was reading about 5 mph lower than what people were seeing on their GPS units. All in all a good time, only saw one blow up in the lights but there were others that happened before the one mile point where we were camped at.

A rundown of the few stand outs that I remember.

    930 Turbo Porsche - 216 mph
Ford GT twin turbo - 214 mph (may have improved after we left as they were in the pits putting bigger turbos on the car!)
    Toyota Supra- 201 mph
Porsche turbo convert - 181 mph
Dodge Magnum (huge Procharger) - 180 mph
Mitsubishi Mirage - 172mph <----- My fav, big time sleeper
    New stock Ferrarri - 160mph

And about 50 Corvettes in all different trims from 137 mph to 173 mph.

    Bikes (only a few there)

    ZX14 turbo - 188 mph
    GSXR 1000 w/ NOS - 197mph

We came up with a rough caculation that seemed to hold true, take 1/4 mile mph and add 35% and that's pretty close to the 1 mile speeds we were seeing.

Example, Turbo Porsche above traps 160 mph in the 1/4 add 35% (56 mph) = 216 mph (that car was trapped at 220 mph at the Texas Mile) so the 5 mph off thing vs GPS was probably true.

That's pretty cool. At some point I would like to check out one of those events.

Great pictures John, looked like a lot of fun. A customer of ours took his White/Blue Stripe GT500 out and ran decent. Car has a stock motor with a 2.9L Whipple and a little shot, went 195 mph spinning through 3rd gear.

Wow, he was hot lapping that thing like crazy, I saw him go 177mph and then into the 180's must have got it figured out after that.

The Celica All Trac was a very impressive ride, 4 cyl turbo, 4wd and was running in the 190's!

Lot's of cool cars there for sure, too bad they weren't all going down the track, that late 60's silver Camaro for example was sweet, would have been cool to see it run vs vette after vette after vette.

His first run he went 183, then 195 on the 2nd pass... Then hot lapping got the best of him as on the 3rd run he boiled the I/C fluid, twin screw blower + 3 pulls through 6th gear = hot discharge temps

Is there a website that has info on this?
I've never heard about this type of event, but always wished there could be something like it.

That was the cars' first time being run, they achieved their goal for the first outting. The owner is right down the road from us and brought it by, pretty sick set-up it has. Do I think they'll hit 300mph, doubtful, but only time will tell as they are running the "small motor and turbos".

Damn, I'm glad this forum doesn't turn into a pissing match like that in every thread. Definitely have had some pretty entertaining threads like the On3 ones, but that was just people on here looking out for each other, not everyone measuring their cocks.
