I need cheap motorcycle insurance

I bought a bike on a Saturday. I wasn't about to ride out of there with no insurance. It's kinda hard setting up insurance on a Saturday. This place was open: http://www.epmotorcycleinsurance.com/ I guess they are like a middle man for arranging insurance? Insurance turned out to be from this place: http://www.foremost.com/

$1,500 a year. Seemed high but it was temporary till I could get it switched. Then I get a letter in the mail not a couple weeks later from them saying sorry, they couldn't insure me at that rate, so it was now going to be $2,100 a year. So I switched over to State Farm. $50 a month/$300 every 6 months, etc.

All's good right? Today I get a letter stating they are sorry, but they can't insure me due to driving record(minor stuff).

So who's next on the insurance list?

I'm with state farm for my bike, car and renters. I didn't really bother shopping around since they offered to insure my bike for $10 a month (good "full" coverage). It's only a kawi 250 ninja but I'd heard they were the best in the area so I stuck with a good thing. Only a little while after I signed did I hear from the person who suggested them that they raised his rates and tried to collect for insuring his bike over the winter while he had it knocked down for storage. Mind you, he had it at the bare minimums due to non use, but they claimed they didn't charge him enough, so they tried to screw him.

If they try this with me, I'll start to shop around while I ride out the rest of my policy, since this was the contract I signed.

Now, I can say that SF is a bit behind on their info. They don't run your record right away, so they only charge you for the liability you claim yourself as. If you forgot something and they weren't charging you, then when your record comes back a little bit dirty, they will raise your rates. It sucks for us, but I haven't heard of them trying to collect for the months past that they'd charged less (due to record issues). With mine, I was upfront and honest about my record, so it never jumped. At the same time, they will play the dick-around game if you try to make a claim. My buddy who suggested them was fine and dandy, acting as non-paid salesman for state farm. He gave them great kudos and was happy with their rates. His basement flooded, he made a claim, they paid out, then came back on him for his motorcycle policy claiming they didn't charge him enough over the winter for his "storage" insurance (which he didn't make a claim on while using.) It rubbed him bad, so he left and they lost a great spokesperson who had multiple policies (homeowner, motorcycle, a few cars and i'm sure many more, all which were good coverage).

I'd say shop around, but stick with SF as they do seem to be pretty cheap. If you haven't gone to speak with an agent and just did it by phone, go meet a SF rep. Sometimes they can cut you some better deals, which although hard to imagine, actually can happen. I was a stickler for eliminating the middle man while with progressive, but found out it was cheaper to get a middle man in there, and way more convenient.

Ah, should have given the info. I'm 25 and have 2 points for speeding, insuring a 98 civic, 06 ninja 250 and $15k in renters coverage. All in total, it puts me around 80 or so a month, living in Virginia.

How about just going to big insurance firm, and they shop all of the insurance companies for you? Thats what I do with my cars, and have in the past with my bike.

Make sure you have medical coverage through SOMETHING. I got fucked out of $40,000 because my bike insurance had no medical, my auto denied me because they don't cover bikes, health insurance denied me because it was an auto accident.
Other guy was 100% at fault as well, but NJ is a no fault state.
I got fucked, don't let it happen to you.
I live with a lawyer, trust me we tried everything.

I have Esurance on both of my cars, and I have nothing but positive things to say about them. I have had 2 claims in the last 2 years and they both went very smoothly. I don't know if they do motorcycles, but they are always very nice and prompt, on the phone and the people you actually see in person.

What's getting me is they ask about the past three years. I was involved in a collision in my truck in an ice storm last year and I got a ticket for that, and a speeding ticket earlier this year.

Unfortunately your going to have trouble finding a decent price until your driving record stays clean for a while. It sucks but the only way to not get raked over the coals on insurance stuff is to drive like grandpa until you get out to a track somewhere.
