The best thing about that situation is that they are not a private store that can refuse him. You want all that free money from tows, then they should have to earn it, I was almost cheated by a tow company once claiming they had my are longer then they actually did. I think everyone should use this penny tactic.

If someone came to my shop to pay like that I would gladly take them ,, after I watched them count every last one .
Then I'd give them to my wife to take to the bank.

but who has to count it? b/c he already did count it when he put it in the box. then youd say, "how do i know its all there." only way for you to know if its all there is to count it yourself...

like the cops said, by law they have to take the money that makes it their responsibility to make sure its enough. atleast thats the way i see it.

so this 'company' is a government agency? Coinage act says that you (a private citiven or business) don't have to accept cash, but that doesn't apply to the gubberment.

    Well played, either way.

Yes, in a way all tow companies that are on the tow lists with local law enforcement are acting on behalf of the government when they tow your vehicle. By acting on behalf of the government (and making all that basically free money on exorbitant tow charges and ridiculous storage costs) they have to except the coinage act statute that makes them have to accept any form of US Currency, just like the gas company and electric companies that have a government backed monopoly on certain areas .

Here, the PD's set the towing rate. Last I saw it was 150 an hr, 30 a day storage.

What does that translate to? An hour of towing is 150?

Well, two things. When you work for the PD's, that's the rate. An impound would generally be charged one hour. Unless is was parallel parked and you have to snake it out between two cars because the owner isn't there. I have had to charge 300 for an impound before. Then there is the accidents and rollovers. 150/hr to get em right side up, clean fluids and glass, then tow. Gets $$ fast on accidents. I got called to one with a rollover where toxic chemicals where involved. Ended up waiting there 3 hrs before I even started working for them to check the stuff out and clear for work.

so my local county courthouse has a sign in the clerk of court office (where speeding tickets and such are paid) that says they won't accept more than $5 in loose change. Is that against the law for them to deny loose change for payment of tickets?

Yes it is, I guarantee you that sign was made by the clerks themselves and not a state mandate.

I wish I could remember where I saw it. i had seen a vid like this before where there was a scene and there was a stipulation stated (by officer ?) that if it impeded the places right to business, it did not have to accept the loose change. I know this is a big help, maybe someone else saw it ?

Kinda gay really. I mean, the towing company is a third party acting on orders from local police or parking authority, so why take your tantrum out on them because you can't manage to legally park? Paying genuine bullshit tickets on the other hand....well that would be justified, lol. But I'm pretty sure a business can decide not to accept that just like ghetto stores can refuse bills larger than a twenty. I'd tell him to go get fucked and die.
