has anyone nicked a main journal while installing a piston? I nicked a freaking journal because I didnt take my time and I should have used a piece of hose over the rod bolt. It didnt nick it bad just put a slight smily face. :bah:

Just wondering.... is the crank screwed. its already 0.20 under. Not sure if a polish will take it out or not.

    thanks

yep and it cost me a crank during disassembly though. if you can run your fingernail across it it needs a tleast polished.

I had a huge nick in mine on the first motor I ever built when I was 18. It was polished, and ran fine. It ended up making over 500 rwhp for quit some time before I pulled it.

Yeah, even knicks that you can't feel are deeper than .010"... I would take it back to the machine shop and see if they can polish it back to spec.

Depending how much $$ you have in the engine, if not worried then....
a warding file to dress the nick and then some time with a piece of leather and metal polish ;)
