Stockish 89 GT, MP-70, tuning suggestions?

Been out of the loop awhile so I'm not up to date with the latest and greatest. My 89 Mustang GT is basically stock except for a Cobra intake, little bolt ons, and a BG Turbo kit w/ MP-70 waiting to be installed.

I'd like to keep things simple, and fairly cheap. I got away with using a Cartech FMU years ago, and I could try my luck again, but there's obviously better methods. I'm first thoughts are
    1. keep the stock MAF ecu
    2. figure out what MAF meter to use (guess my old C&L is outdated too)
    3. get some sort of wideband O2 sensing
    4. figure out best way to control timing
    5. know when to say "enough is enough" to not blow shit up :D My goal is simply a reliable 400-450 hp street car.

One more thing, are there any good fuel additives out now? I used to mix race gas with 93 sometimes, and may do that again, but maybe there are other options. Any info or suggestions is much appreciated :2thumbs:

My suggestions are to get rid of the fmu probably sell it or something and get the car tuned by someone and thats that.....now if you are tuning inclined then just get a tweecer r/t for 350 bucks a cheap old laptop and some kind of wideband....and start tuning...as for the maf meter you could buy a blow through meter or try and run a draw through set up....just my 2 cents..

From the looks of it, I won't be able to run this draw through C&L with the BG kit anyway. I've always heard blow through was more accurate anyway.

I've tuned a FAST system and would like to tune again, it's fun. Not sure if there's any really reputable tuners around here (heard bad stories about a few). I forgot about the tweecer r/t, but I will be buying a new laptop and have an old beater to maybe get by if need be.

I guess one thing I'd like is to find people with similar combos and see what they've used to tune and get some baseline ideas. And I'd like to know if any of these cheaper systems can make automatic A/F compensations like FAST can.

    Thanks for the help!

As far as air meters go i would go with the pro m pro tube, buy a tweecer and enter the data from the flow sheet and that will get you real close. or if you dont want to buy the tweecer you could get a boost reference timing lock like they advertise at the top of the home page and go with the same air meter. if you dont want to mess with the different tuning software. A walbra 255 intank, kirban boost ref. regulator, some good siemens deka 42lb injectors, and a wideband. The Pro-M protube is one hell of a good air meter and its blow through.

Is the Pro-M the same as a PMAS? Or two separate companies? I'm not seeing a link to a boost reference timing lock, guess I can search for it. I'm gonna guess it prevents timing from going too high under boost? Kinda like a MSD-BTM? Thanks!

Pro-m is a company all of its own but their are compans that try to use their name, its a long story of joining companys then seperating and stuff like that. LM Performance will give you a good deal on the meter cause they offer discounts to Turboforms members. Remeber the name fo the meter is aPro M Pro Tube and they come in 3'' and 4'' diameter. XPI Timing Lock http://www.xpinnovation.net/timinglock_pro.html. Exp. You can use this to make your timing lockout to 18* when it see one lb/psi. :2thumbs:

Buy yourself a tuner for the stock computer. You can go as cheap as $140, or spend $250 for something fancy. Software is from free to $100.

Check out www.moates.net for the adapter/burner/logger etc.

I'm new to the whole self tuning scene but I just ordered a Moates Quarterhorse from Moates.net. Can't beat it for $250 bucks and it's all real time tuning/data logging.

I would buy one too if I already didn't have a Tweecer, an Ostrich 1, Ostrich 2, Burn 1, Burn 2, Pocket Programmer2 etc lol
He has to stop with the new cool products!
