the car-69camaro six speed 3.70 rear.
engine-496bbc aluminum heads, 10.1 compression, efi, twin t70s with .96 a/r with log style headers and 50mm wastegates, intercooled, solid roller 652 lift 308 advertized 264 @.050 single pattern.

i have read several threads about compression and still have no answer some say you need 8.0:1 others say you can go 11:1 no problem. this car is 80% street driven 20% track. my goal is 1000rwhp on RACE GAS. i dont care how much power it has with pump gas, it already has too much for the street without turbos. i am going to run 6-8 psi on pump gas which is as low as i can go with my wastegates. my question is can i run this with pump gas or is it too much compression. i can put thicker gaskets to lower it. changing pistons is out of the question since it is already balanced with all forged internals already. but since this is primarily a street car do i want to keep it at 10:1 for economy and power under boost?

If your going to run it on real octane it will be fine. I don't think you will get in trouble with 8psi on pump. That is a large bore though and I don't have a lot of experience with that engine. On a small bore 4v I wouldn't be afraid of running 15psi on pump, but like I said I don't know how your engine works in a dynamic state.

I agree it makes a great car, especially for a daily driver it will still have tons of torque without boost. Just make sure it's tuned right and that you have a good intercooler. :2thumbs:

according to the new owner of my old cobra. i ran 11.5/1 on 8psi with pumpgas no intercooler. i was allways putting in a few gallons of insurance race gas though. maybe why it lived while i had it. if you run a mix id say you would be fine. i would not take chances on running strait pump on anything forced induction, but thats just me. pay a few dollars on filling it up, or hundreds on rebuilding it. depends on if your going to a local cruise in or hitting the power tour long haul i guess.

I run 10:1 I've always run 10:1 and that's on pump gas 91 Cali which is like the worst of all the gasolines. I have a great intercooler and you can run up to 12 psi on normal gas. Anything more you need race gas... If you want higher boost.
