Hey everyone... just wanted to introduce myself. Name is Fred, not sure if any of you are from the North East area at all but if so you have probably seen us once or twice at NED. Anyways just wanted to post some pics of my car etc... Here is some info on it enjoy the pics... I have a few incar vids i'll try and get up as well. I have been racing the car since 2006. The car started life N/A and race mid 13's with 170 whp. Have since just recently finished the turbo build on the car and have since made a total of 6 track passes....then winter set in :( Will be hitting the track hard come spring in quest for some mid to low 10 sec passes. Thanks and I hope to be a help to people in this section as well as the forum as a whole. (sorry for the collage pic...that was the best pic of some track shots we got from the track photo guy.)

Nice build! Impressive traps out of a t3 based 60-1! Have you dynoed the car? I am curios as to what the power band looks like.

Thanks for the Kind words. I forgot to mention that this car is still on pump gas... with no fuel additives or methanol injection. With the prices of gas this summer I decided to stay pump gas for a little time.

Car has been on the dyno to get some base numbers...Have yet to push the limits of the 60-1 yet....It has an .82 housing and I run the car to 8,500 + rpm.
I'll try to get the dyno chart up on the web but the car put down 360 whp at 16-18 psi. With this turbo not hitting its peak airflow until 25 psi we have a long way to go! The chain of events was as follows... made the turbo kit for the car in about 4 days or so...finished on a thursday night....strapped her down on the dyno the next day and threw a baseline tune in the car for the 16-18 psi... and ran her on saturday. Was a quick and dirty swap to get some passes on her before the year ended. Im guess with in the next few months when i find time to strap it down again and play with it some more I will be looking to make somewhere in the 450 range or so with out to much trouble. Not sure If i'll do it on pump or not but we shall see i guess ;)

So what parts are in that engine to make it last at those power levels and rpm?

very cool :2thumbs: hey by any chance do u know what ecotec engine or family is boost friendly? as far as making serious power? or all blocks about the same? i want to say the cobalt ss supercharged block but i have no idea and always wanted to know the ans to that question.

believe it or not the engine as far as parts is not as "wild" as one may thing. Biggest change to the rotating assembly is the forged rods and pistons. The engine still retains the stock crank and the block has been completely untouched...stock bore, sleeves etc. aside from the head studs thats all the was done to the block. the rotating assembly was just recently balanced to help with the rpms HOWEVER...before i did the turbo swap with the forged internals...when the car was N/A with all the stock engine parts we still ran 8500 rpm so these motors have a very nice lower end. The head sports a mild comp cams set (for now) stock valves and stock head porting. when i assembled the head it got ferrea dual coil springs and thats about the size of it. The intake manifold is a stock (unported) 2.0L saab intake from the 2003 and up saab 9-3 that shares the same engine platform.

The block and engine combo as it sits is probably good for just over 500 whp, obviously some porting and upper end work will be needed to get there but the core combo is in place which is what I wanted.

As far as the ecotecs to boost...well they actually are all good. I have built my fair share of boosted ecotec and support the ecotec platform alot as I am a site sponsor on some of the ecotec forums and actually plan on being a site sponsor here as well. The 2.0L ss engines and the 2.2L are the easiest by far. they have the most parts availability etc. however depending on how much power you are looking for each one of the ecotec engines can support 250 boosted whp n stock parts... with the LSJ 2.0L engines being able to hold just over 400 on stock parts.

    SMG,

The 2.0 Ecotech is quite impressive. Does anyone make the parts needed to adapt drag race style SFI steel bellhousing, clutch and so on for rwd installs yet? I haven't looked around at the various forums in a while.

Btw, nice '65 Olds on your site. Have more pics of it?

    TIA
    Dave

Thanks for the comments....I don't want to publicly talk about some of the parts things at this moment on the forum as I do not have vendor status and don't want to get kicked off the site for advertising without paying...but I can "lead" you in the right direction if you PM or Email me through here or my website.

As far has high hp ecotec's out there...friends of ours that run a cobalt sportsman car (CSI Drag Racing) have a 900+ hp cobalt with an auto running high eights at 3,000 lbs or just over. The highest hp Ecotec engines are in the pro cars....those motors are in the 1,450 to 1,500 hp range with either 2.0L or 2.2L based engines. gatta love screaming american made 4 cyl cars.

I do have some more pics of the olds... has been a customer of ours for some time. Car originally was a race car and has been street driven for some time now. it is a big block car with an auto. goes fairly well.

J bodies FTW. 11.3 is damn nice. I had a 97 for a while with the 2.2 OHV. I bought a turbo kit for it and never ended up putting it in. I sold it before I got ahold of some side feed injectors.
It's actually pretty sad how little respect J platform cars get but it's to be expected.

    Keep up the good work.

I know... we get no love. Thanks for the kind words. See... we got into the J cars cause they were such sort money to buy and had awesome potential to build due to the ecotec platform. The most asked question i get is why a cavalier? and I am always like...why not? you're here looking at it right? I thought of it as something just a little different....and its a good attention getter ;)

Great build! Thanks for all the info shared so far. I was curious about transmission modifications. I also run a J-body, old school as in 1989. It has the 3.4 OHV from a junkyard venture van with 13psi of turbo, along with the stock Getrag/Muncie 5 speed. It has gone 12.2 at 119mph, but I'm having a lot of clutch issues (slipping). Seems the small 9" disc is not very happpy with my 400+lb-ft of torque! Do you know of any custom clutch builders I could get in touch with? I don't prefer to swap in an auto at this point, but its frustrating to think that I have more money in the clutch than the engine and it still won't hold a full pass!

Its funny to hear how people talk to you about your car, as I get the same questions at the tracks. I even ran it on Hot Rod DW 08 and it got a lot of smirks until it went a 12.4 on the first day!

haha nice! good to hear you have an 89! cause so do I! still got a little 2.8L in it with an auto... but i have been thinking about turboing it as well. I have had my 89 for a while, and won a track braket championship with the car... has a lot of good memories in it :)

As far as custom clutch builders i do not know of any... but... you should think about auto swapping it... i know you dont want to but they hold much more power and are much easier to build. the autos get alot more support than the 5spds so. something to think about.

Ya i have been thinking about doing DW with the 05... think it would turn some heads when it went 10s

Great job. I've thought about using the ecotec in a roadracing applicaton. Great to see a domestic 4 cylinder making horsepower.

THANKS! ya... the intercooler setup was a spawn off of my N/A setup we used to call the ant eater. Had the intake pipe for the NA setup come up and over the rad support to grab air... was pretty cool i'll see if i can find pics of that.

Best part about the car is its still on pump gas. Should be interesting wth some meth or race gas.

P.S. you have me thinking about building a V6 stang street car or a V6 camaro!!!
