gotta concentrate the heat on the rollbar and then kinda wash it to the floor pan....

most guys weld a plate to the floor pan where the cage is gonna go so they have something with some thickness to weld to.

floor pan to 1/8 plate to cage

basically what he said when I was welding my through the floor subframe connectors I had the same problem at first I would start welding on the subframe and then bring the weld down just enough so that it lands on the floor

You might try a smaller wire. I bet you are using .030. Might try using .023. It should be easier to control.

Use .025" wire - keep the heat on the plate and just drag it out to the floorpan then back to the plate.

doing some reading last night said something about using a quick start stop method to let the thin metal in the floor pan cool back down.....and to do a stitching pattern, some grinding if necessary and you should have a little more to work with the 2nd time around....my wire is small so im gonna give it a try....nothing a grinder cant fix if it dont work

    Stitch weld.

Start on the plat and let gravity do the work. Once the puddle hits the thin ass floor pan it will fuse. Let go of the trigger and move a bit and repeat.

Oh and to anyone whom may be trying to weld roll cage directly to floor pan, please stop working on race cars.

Lol yeah good luck getting the certified if the bars go directly to the floor pan.

learned a good technique this evening.....stitch the thin floor pan to the plate..on low setting and let it cool...all the way
at this point you can clean it up and jack the power up a notch...run a clean bead down the center of the plate and pan where the pan has been welded

it looked clean and it is plenty strong.....ill prolly widen the bead up to the plate more...the only problem im seeing now is some of the pipes are not cleanly connected and have some gaps :bang:
