and I am concerned about something. The car is very well cared for and nicely done, but the turbo kit has been installed and the car not tuned. The downpipe is touching the transmission and the clutch cable is a little bound by other fitment issues, according to the current owner. If I buy this car are there shops in the Atlanta area that can deal with the fitment issues by fabrication parts if necessary? If so, is parts fabrication a costly issue with these systems? Thanks for the help. I have some money to buy, but my knowledge is lacking and I don't want to get burned.

    Ric

Concerning the above referenced question, disregard. I located some info on the web to deal with the questions. I will locate a local shop to help work all of the bugs out.

NOTHING about a turbo car is cheap, well maybe the jack stands. You need more info on the kit, whats it made of, who made it and what brand of turbo.

I am mainly concerned about a shop's ability to make corrections to a turbo kit already installed and how they bill their work out. I never even said I was looking for something "cheap." Here's another side note I will add to yours. I have graduate education, I'm a CPA, and my household earnings are in the 6 figures. So I will pass on your suggestion of a honda. As a matter of fact, I could own a much more expensive car, If I wanted to.

On to the details: It is a B&G turbo kit. The drain line just needs an adjustment, so that is no problem. Also, I understand the bell housing can be ground a little to help with the downpipe issue. So, the only remaining issue on this car is it needs tuning and I am considering installing an EMS for the tuning when I take it in for the dyno. If all of that works out, I'll locate a 351 block and start a real radical build.

    Cheers

And that makes you so special because why?

Maybe you should have added more details in your first post. To me it sounds like newbie material. :stupid:

This was a response to your suggestion that I buy some cheap rice burner, dude. Hence the reply. I doesn't make me special. It means affordability is not an issue. BTW, my original post addressed fabrication issues, something you obviously did not comprehend. Instead, you choose to flame me two separate times.

One of the challenges of these boards is this; the newbie is so ill informed, and the old timers so advanced in the knowledge, that the posts online become so technical that the newbie often has trouble getting an understanding quickly. So, you guys talk this stuff back and forth and the new guy comes on and wants to gain some knowledge but the two are trying to communicate different languages. So, it is like me trying to convey to you the basics of corporate liquidations with foreign implications and you only knowing about w-2's and the earned income credit.

If it is a B&G kit call or write Brian I'm sure he will help with your questions. He might even give you details about the kit you didn't know.

I am with you on the newbie not nowing as much as the more experienced members. The problem that I have seen on this forum is that there are way too many newbie's that post questions that have been answered over and over. I do find that the search function on this site sucks but the info is on here you just have to look for it. So when you ask a question that is missing some detail you may get "flamed" from some of the less tolerante members. I myself am new to this site but I have spent many, many hours on here just learning. So my suggestion is to make sure that when you ask a question make sure you provide as much info as possible and look to see if it has been answered already. You will have more responses and less "flaming".
I have a BG kit as well. The downpipe may be fixed be loosening the turbo and moving the downpipe a little then retighten the turbo. The clutch cable can be moved around a little and I would find some heat protection for it. The kit is great. There are many options for tuning and you can read about them all on this site. Good luck, let us know how you make out with it. Cheers and welcome to the site.

Thanks so much. I know I could spend 500 hours reading these boards and learn everything I need to know, but I am in the beginning of tax season and I am slammed. I am close to pulling the trigger on this deal but some things are missing on the car and I need to have more knowledge so I can negotiate the best possible price on the car. Someone told me to look into a PMS unit for tuning, so I need to look around for one. Also, it does make sense that some adjustments could be made to the turbo setup. The clutch cable bracket was moved to make room for the turbo setup, resulting in pretty stiff clutching.
    Thanks,R

Sounds like all that stuff is pretty minor. Hopfully someone with that kit can chime in to give you details on their kit to let you know what they did. have any pics?

IF the clutch is real stiff it might wear its self out. We had that problem with a 5.0 before when some guy routed the cable wrong. That thing was stiff as hell and only last a short time.

It doesn't take long to f-up a clutch cable if it's near the header. Any shop will charge you a "what ever it takes" type of fix your problems. Sounds like an easy fix. You'll be happy with that kit, good power to start and room to grow. This forum has had a rash of stupid questions, the more info the better. If this car had a stainless kit on it i would've told you to walk away from it. Good luck and post pix and get some good jack stands :D

Thanks for all of the info guys. I have a relative who is an auto mechanic and his favorite car is the 89 notchback. He is willing to help with some adjustments. The current owner of the car indicated there are few places to move the clutch cable to in order to accomodate the kit. I will go back out on Saturday and get some pics. He has a lift so I can get the car way up in the air to see everything. Here's some of the car itself.

Price agreement reached and Higgins Ford Performance will do the chip/tuning/turbo fitment adjustments. Will take care of camber plates and tires next weekend. Also need a cowl hood.

Make sure you have enough fuel pump and injectors. You may be close to their limit.

Thats around 500 hp of fuel.... The problem is this you buy that car and it's going to be fine at 400-450 whp. Once you out run your fuel system/engine block/trans/ECM it takes another 15k in to a car that you spent 10k on... You're better off buying a 18-20k turbo fox that is finished...
