How did you guys get a air filter in there? My 79 has a radiator support from a 93, so I know it's not a 79 issue ( the supports are not the same btw )..

The filter that came with the kit flat doesnt fit. I'd have to cut on the support to get a filter in there, and I'm a bit worried about the size of the filter if I did find one to fit.. I'm trying to think of a way to put a elbow in and run a filter to the inner fender well, but thats a tight bend.. The car only runs on the track, but I would like to have a filter on it when I'm messing around in the shop.. I'm out in the middle of no-where with a ton of dust floating around, so I hate running the engine in those condition's.. I have a screen on the turbo inlet, but that does nothing for keeping dust out. Just wondering what other guys have done, either fabbed something up, or did some hacking to put the filter directly on the turbo.. Here's a reference pic...

The fisrt kit i had was like yours and the filter that came fit, but it was too small.(motor would not rev past 5k) I ended up getting a 4" 90* hose from RPS. From the turbo it went in the fender... it was a pain. But you can put as big of a filter as you want and less heat.

I would do what domn8rx did. I dont run no filter at all on my car and I have no problems. What damage can dust do to your motor?

I didn't run a filter for a long time un-till....see the pix...see the brass fitting near the t-bolt clamps... it has a hose on it that went to the wastegate.... we were at the dyno getting the car tuned and i was out side the car watching the boost gauge... when it spiked REALLY bad... that hose was gone....it was just dust in the intercooler.

I was barely able to squeeze a K&N RU2520. Its small but its a filter. I pulled it off at the track anyways. Its only 5" long, you may be able to squeeze it in there. They also have a 3.5" version.

The spectre filter Brian sent me was not going to fit unless I did some cutting, it wouldn't even fit if I put it on the turbo and and then installed the turbo.

I used the small 3.5 K&n filter, it was tight but it did fit in there.... The I went with a 90 degree hose into the lower part of the fender because of the heat.

I put a dubble layer of SS screen door mat. over the front of mine with a tbolt and that works great.

An HKS foam Mushroom style filter is the only thing that would fit for me on the drivers side. My passenger side was a little easier than your guys setups though.

VS racing sells the HKS version and the knock off version. Be forewarned the HKS filter is expensive (aka $86) thankfully though you guys only have to buy one. If I ever redo it I'll just run an elbow into the fender and put a filter on in there.
