Im in the process of converting to blow through and Im going to run a bigger return. My problem is that the return on top of the tank isnt big enough and I have 2 -12 openings on my sump,Dont think I can use it for return line but I was going to ask. If I cant use it what do you guys use to hook return to top of tank? Thanks

just weld an extention onto the fitting you
screw into the tank so you don't have feed
    issues

I just bought a fitting and drilled a hole in the top of the tank. From my understanding putting the return next to the feed is a BAD idea.

a return has to have free air space-trying to push return fuel through the weight of all the fuel in the tank would be a huge restriction-i had a return in a tank that would get covered up when the tank was near full, drove the fp crazy-if you dont want to weld on the tank, you could rem the sending unit and weld in a return, or cut the filler neck off and weld in a return, aiming it downward a little-i did a couple like that, worked out pretty good, just use avail fuel filler hose to put it back together

I was old not to aim the return towards the sump. It can cause air bubbles in the system.

I added a sump to my stock tank using just one side of it and a -10 to the top driver's side for a return. I didn't vent the tank however and haven't noticed any problems but I wondered if this will become a problem. Has anybody had problem without a vent? My gas cap says vented but I don't know if that is enough.

Depending on the volume of the tank, you might be ok, but I would vent it, it is very important to have a good vent.

i don't know how much fuel pump/hp requirements you have but
no theory here it worked just fine using a sump about the size of
the comp engineering unit. the fuel pump was a holley black at
first and then an aeroquip 1000 later . car was drove on a couple
of hot rod power tours and is a high 10 low 11 second 3500 lb
    street car

So you're saying you used one of the sump outlets for a return?

I did just this with my Aeromotive A-1000 with a -8 feed and a -8 return all it does is cycle hot fuel when you do that and the pump does NOT like hot fuel, On long road trips I had to pack around my fuel cell with ice to keep the pump from sounding like a wood chipper LOL

I have since switch the return into the top of the tank and it is WAY better!

So the return in top where the factory fuel pump goes wil definatly be better? Right?

Yes, I had issues with mine when i had both the the return and the feed near each other, I moved the return to the upper side of the tank and no problems anymore.

You can do it the poor mans way drill and install a bulkhead fitting in the filler neck at the bottom and it makes a good return or buy the part that replaces the stock pump..

I used the stock fuel pump plate asembly. I wacked off all the steel lines and welded the holes up. I got a #10 steel male fitting and drilled the fuel pump plate so that it fits in snuggly. Pulled out the welder and welded it up , but becareful its thin and it warps easily. Weld some and let it cool before you finish welding it. :welder:

Sorry to steal the tread, but.. I have a 68 camaro and am thinking od putting a sump in with the A1000 pump. I'm going to install the return at the top right with a fitting welded. Return won't be my issue. I don't want any fuel feed problems though, My sump kit came with a diagram to cut baffles in the tank. I'm worrying about loosing fuel pressure because it's a street car. Going around corners and stopping and such. Anyone have problens like that? I'm looking for the BEST way to go.
