Yes i was there all 4 days, the car went into the sand and then hit the straw bales. It didn't look good, front of the car was pretty smashed in. But atleast Steve is ok. I heard from another pro mod racer that his chutes didn't blossom, and the brakes faded.

The car needs a complete front half at the least. Everything up there is wasted but the engne hopefully. Skipped over the sand and under the bails of straw and hit the dirt wall. Steve looked to be one sore dude. Just glad Steve's ok. He wants to have it fixed within 10 days.

I heard it a little after it happened and was sick. Also heard the chutes didnt blossom. Looked like the front clip was pretty well trashed.

The chute was launched, just did not blossom

They have had no issues with the chutes on the car when they were running 214/215mph but once they started to hit 220 they started having chute issues...221 pass only 1 chute blossomed, then the 220 pass when they went off both chutes hit the ground and just spun and tangled up so they are going to look and see if its an aerodynamic issue with air over and under the car. I know Steve will figure it out before sitting back in the car. I saw steve late sat and he had a ice bag on his lower back and the hans left a good mark on his neck.

I've noticed more cars putting the chutes on the edges at the rear, and slightly angled out.

    glad to see no injuries.

I have seen pics of the car, the chute don't seem to have enough upward angle.

well i think if you going 220 that your chute should be placed differently then cars going much slower. I am sure that what works on a 180mph car may not be optimum on 220. i bet with the time and money he has in that car he will figure it out. i mean if he can push the limit of mod motors i am sure he can figure a chute out. i am glade to hear he is ok, and happy to hear the car is not completely destroyed.

Car also did not have carbon brakes. Standard brakes only. Brake pressure on the graph never went below 900 pounds but you could see the G-meter drop then climb as the brakes faded. Steering wheel was bent almost to the dash on both sides. Steve had a good grip on that sucker and locked both elbows.

Just very glad he was not seriously injured.

The car is back together and should be at the track in Topeka for Comp qualifying tomorrow.

He is currently #1 in Comp with a .688 under (6.68 @ 205). From what I understand there is a paint job due this next week and then they are heading to Milan.
