I have a 00 6 banger going carbed 302 setup and I was needing a 8.8 I know that the 94-98s are 1.5 inches wider than a fox but I have heard the 99-04 cars are wider can anyone help me on this subject whats the difference of the 94-98 and the 99-04.

I know the only difference in the fox rear and 94-98 are the axles and the housings are basically the same but cant seem to find any info on the 99-04 rears

housing are still them same, in 99 the axles just got longer and caliper brackets are different, you can get any 8.8 (out of a mustang)housing and just transfer you brakes, axles and brackets. v6 and v8 use the same brakes and same axles both are 28 spline.

Oh and by the way unless you plan on putting slicks on and making more than 300rwhp you won't break the 7.5 a 8.8 is like only 25% stronger big woop, find a posi unit out of an early gt before 87 or turbo coupe factory 3.55 or 3.73 posi.

I"m hoping to make around 400 hp I knew that the foxes through 98 had the same housing but didn't know if the 99-04 used the same housing thanks that helps find a rear a bunch easier

I have a set of 18x10.5 saleens I'm putting on the back I think there pretty close to a 7inch backspacing and I still have room to the inner fender I found a fox 8.8 with 373 in it the guy wants 200 bucks for it but he wants the 3.8 out of my car so I may swap him the motor and transmission for the 8.8 and some boot

fox housing is different than the 99-04s brakes wont work on the housing axles are to long for the brakes theres like a 3/4" gap where the bracket would mount up does anyone have any other suggestions I have a mark 8 rear end and the axle was a little bit short but still didn't get me where it needed to be. would stuff off of a 96 7.5 work? I found one of them.

    99-04 8.8 are about 1.5" wider overall than the 94-98 8.8.
The 7.5 shafts are the same as the 8.8 shafts for that year.
stock shafts from the 99-04 are 28 spline.
The weak length in the 7.5 is the spider gears. They usually crap out before anything else, limited slip or open.
I was under the impression that fox body 8.8 and 94-98 8.8 were the same lengths

well I got a 8.8 out of a fox and tried to use the axles and brakes off of the 00 v6 and the axles are about .75" to long and the lincoln axles are a 1.25 longer than the fox and the 94-98 are .75 longer than the fox and best I can tell the 94-98 axles will work with the brakes that I have I'm going to get axles out of a 96 sat and slid them in I hope they will work seems like no one has ever tried but the part numbers for the disc and brackets are the same 94-04 so I'm pretty sure thats going to work. I'll post it up when I figure out if it will.

I just hope if it does that my 10.5 wide saleens wont rub but I guess I could always get a .75 spacer and put on there.

the lincoln axles are 1.25" longer per side than the fox length axles you can take the lincoln rotors and calipers and switch sides with the brackets and use ranger axles if you are trying to keep the fox width thats what I done on my fox before I decided to start goin nuts and mini tub it (project will take forever with my budget its back to a rolling chassis again)

heres a link that might help you out on the lengths of the axles and has a bunch of 5 lug swap info http://mjbobbitt.home.comcast.net/~mjbobbitt/mustang/5lug.html
