1)a bigger exhaust housing, will take longer to spool.......
2)boost depends on engine mods.the best thing is to get a compressor map from the manufacturer, that way you can look @ the efficiency islands.
    3) every car is diferent & they are diferent factor for horse power like timming, air fuel ratio ,etc..

Last I knew there still wasn't a compressor map available for the MP T70.

I personally have the .96 housing on my car. It does have some lag, but dyno graphs I saw of .68's on 4V cars seemed to nose over much ealier in the power band. My car is more of a track car and has a trans brake so the little bit of lag doesn't bother me. Still a ton of fun on the street.

Would a .81 housing be more suitable for a mainly street/occasional track car? For a T70-T76

It depends where you plan to rev it to. Who cares about lag under 3000 if your going to have your power falling off at 6500.

Most guys who run a MPT-70 run the .96 exhaust housing on 4v's for a reason. You don't want to run out of steam. I believe the .81 a/f will be falling off after 6500.

I'm running a 96 exhaust housing and mine plains over at 5800. There is a guy that posted the dyno numbers of 68 to 96 housing. The 96 made 50 more hp.

Do you know the link to that? If the 68 or 81 spools noticably faster then giving up 50 peak hp might not be too bad. Mine too is going to be 90% street and maybe the track 3-4 times a year, full weight .

.96 on my MP T70 and wouldn't have it any other way.The lag is just enough to set me out before the boost comes in.Perfect for a High HP street car. Also pulls all the way like it wants more (Hello limiter)then shift and do it all over again. :D Just my 2 cents take it for what its worth.

I have finally decided on a 2v 5.4 swap. Im hoping that the master power T70 with the .96 will match up well.

T70 will probably be a bit small on a 5.4 even with a .96 housing on it. Now two on the other hand, with .68's, now your talkin!!
