Looking for some stainless steel!

    I am currently looking to find someone who carrys or has access to T-321 stainless steel. I am going to have a set of headers made and I have understood from several people that this is the best grade to go with. Any help is appreciated.

    Burns Stainless sells them in U's, 90's and straight in a bunch of diameters. If $$$ is no object, ask them to get you a price on their inconel tubing.

    I purchase all my stainless through SPD. Burns offers the same quality also, but I have always had better customer service from SPD, and Chris (Owner) is very knoledgable of what he sells. Both companies have specialty items that you cannot get from the other. Either way, both are a great choice. Expect to pay a premium for the 321 SS, but if you are building a turbo system, in my opinion its the only way to go.

    Blower car make them out of mild steel save yourself the headache! Turbo car 321 will handle the heat cycles so it's a good choice! as for a source SPD or Burns I use both, but again if you have a blower car go mild steel make your first step .065 and your next steps .049 coat them and be done with it!

    yes we did :D it' just sucks to spend all that money on them and have them crack!

    I had a talk with Jason from PA Racing the other day. He informed me that the T-321 stainless steel is alot stronger and wont crack like the T-304 and T-409 stainless steel. This was just his opinion though and his experience of building them. He told me the T-321 would last for approximately 6 years. Now I am going to be building a different set of headers that are not the norm. I am going to be running Zoomy styled headers similar to what John Urist and Billy Lasoski are running in NMRA Super Street Outlaw, because that is what class the car is going to be run in. Jason informed me this is what they build these types of headers out of and supposidly last longer. He told me with the combination I will be running the mild steel would only last for 2-3 years, once again this is his opinion. I want to this once and do it right that is why I was looking at the T-321 stainless steel.

    John I spent every day on a fab bench for 5 years welding stainless, I got to be prety good at it!
    But what I am talking about is the vibration from a blower motor that cracks stainless headers it's happened on 3 sets, now I have done turbo headers out of 321 without a problem but on the blower car they crack for some reason! Call Jack Burns he will tell you what he told me, Now I dont know if the zoome configuration will change anything but I do know when we switched to mild steel on 2 of the 3 cars they have went 2 years without a problem, I have a set of mild steel yates style headers that were coated inside and out and are still in great shape after 8 years but they were coated inside and out!
    I just wouldnt want to spend $1000 on materials and have the headers crack, 321 if awefully expensive and it's a little harder to weld if your not use to welding it!
    just my 2cents don't want to see you waist money!

    Give me a call I think I have some 321 flanges still for high ports and yates heads if your going to go that route!

    hey dave i never did ask...what part was cracking


    was it the weld joint or a seam in the tube...
    was it only one tube (the same one every time)

    Guys thank you for all your input. I think I will go with mild steel headers now that I have heard the horror stories of stainless. I wasnt sure if anyone had used the T-321 stainless on a blower aplication and it seems some have used it. The ones that have used it have had problems. I sure dont want to have $2000-$2500 in a set of headers that are gong to crack.

    Glad to hear it John I wasn't trying to sound like an ASS but the problems we've had with the blower cars and the cost of 321 I didn't want to see you cry when your were having your $2500 headers repaired for the third time!
    I wouldnt hesatate to use 321 on a turbo system in a race car, but the cost is OUTRAGIOUS!
