Mounting a chute to my 72 vega, would be so much easier if it was my old mustang, it will be a 160mph car next weekend :2thumbs:

just looking for any advice I can get on what to do and what I should NOT do

i bought the CE anchor kit and pack mount, but plan on modifying it all, duh

the car is a 3/4 chassi, I have a nice 2" round tube rear brace right under the hatch latching area, was thinking brace that crossmember forward to the frame rails

then weld on the anchor mount straight to the 2" round tube and gusset the anchor tube
like jevas's setup, even have the same gussets :D

main questions are what angle to mount the pack, so when it gets released it catches the air, it will be mounted so the top of the pack is at the transition point at the back of the hatch, reguar simpson skyjacker spring chute

and where to mount the anchor, in relation to cg, I was told at or slight above the level of the cg, true or old fart full of it, i see a lot of these foxbody bumper kits that seem to have the anchor mounted below the cg or real close to it
    thanks, Eric

I've heard to try and mount the line at a height close to the camshaft. I try to do what seems practical though and be /feel safe. As far as angle I see alot of chutes mounted however, but the best way you would want it at a 45 degree angle with the top of the pack at the top of the trunk lid/wing. The few I have mounted have been closer to 20-30 degrees so they dont look rediculous.

What Jake said for the most parts.
What kind of chute is it?
That is what makes a difference in the angle of the chute.
The launcher can get the chute out, a non-launcher style
    mounting is more importantant.

    That angle is real important.
Go for 45*, the only thing pull the chute out is the little drouge.
You want to make sure it goes up and away from the car not
    under the car.

I have a dont for you. DONT go to Orland and leave the car in the rain and not cover the chute! LOL I ran my last qualifying pass and went to pull the chute and the damn cable had rusted that quick! Suprised me when i was expecting the chute to open at 168 mph. Not the longest shutdown in the world down there either...

any recommendations between teather mount and center of gravity, cam height should be close to cg so mount at cg, what about above or below cg, any direction to stay away from

seems that if you mount the teather above cg, when the chute releases it will lever on the rear end and take weight off the front tires

and vice versa if the teather if below cg, it will try and lift the rear tires and push the front end into the ground

any takers on the question :2thumbs:
