I have called a few different transmission companies to see what kinda price they could shoot me for a th-400 capable of supporting a mid to high nine second 3300 pound car. I know thats not 1000hp but that usually what the transmissions are rated for.
What internals should the transmission have. ie: clutches, valvebody, gearset, etc. etc. I somewhat know what to watch for but if someone could give me a parts list than I could compare apples to apples when calling shops. Thanks for any help.

Everyone's gonna use pretty much the same clutches and soft parts as they all use fairly generic rebuild kits for that. Most places will sell a JW or a TCI transbrake valvebody as the high end stuff like Griner are way expensive. The stock planetary and gearset are easily capable of handling 1500hp. I'd want a 34 element sprag, steel clutch hub for this level of power, though. Optionally you could do the lightweight drums. for example, Transking charged me $2150 for a T400 with a JW bellhousing, JW brake, HD input shaft, lightweight front drum, lightweight direct drum, steel clutch hub, 34 element sprag, and deep JW pan.

That sounds about like mine, although I killed the sprag a couple times. First time was probably driver error, second time was probably builder error.

So the lightweight front and direct drum would'nt really be necessary? Does it just get rid of some of the rotating mass weight?

It's not necessary, but would definitely lighten the rotating weight.

So most companies would just use like a alto red eagle master rebuid kit? Does that mean that only the intermediate gets 5 clutches or do the direct and forward packs get more clutches also? Does anybody the # of clutches in each?
    Thanks for the input shane.
