i believe they also have freeze plugs in the front of the block. Easiest way to tell by looking at it.

It is located right next to the oil pan rail at rear of the passenger side, close to where the starter is.

the A4 block is an aftermarket block and I've been wondering the same. I have yet to see one for sale anywhere. I'm pretty sure it was replaced by the r302 block but I could be wrong.

r302 superseded the a4 block. It does have blind tapped 1/2" holes for head studs/bolts. I have one for my build still in the crate, waiting on some money to magically appear to I can afford to assemble it.

easiest way to tell 1/2 inch headbolts and no fitting for a oil dipstick on the block
Also a A4 will have a aftermarket pan stock one doesnt fit, , look on the passenger side rear of the pan rail it will have to have a cutout on the pan for the last main to clear it.
