I feel dumb for asking this question, but what is the best way to mount a harness? I have an RJS cam-lock and the plastic bucket-style seats w/ an 8-point cage. I already have a coupler nut welded into the bar behind the seat but how do you mount the other points? I'm looking for location, hardware, etc. Any pics or diagrams would be useful as well. It might just be common sense but I figured I would ask to see if there are any secret techniques to make it safer. Plus I want it to pass tech inspection.

    thanks,
    Jeremy

when i did mine (dodge dart), i used the factory lap belt holes, and i mounted the crotch strap with a long bolt that went through my sub-frame connector.

I seen upr sells a bar that goes from the left to right seat bolt holes and has a mount or something in the middle for the middle mounting point

I guess I'll just go by common sense then. I'll use some grade 8 hardware with some big fender washers in the spots where it will just go to the floor pan. I have to get it together for NMRA this weekend. Thanks!

Yes there is a proper way. G8 hardware is always a given, but a big mistake many people make is mounting the harness directly behind and below the seat. In a bad accident this can/will compress your spine/break your collarbone and likely cause a lot of hurt/injuries. Plus some tech guys will give it a no-go.

The proper way is to mount at no more than a 45* angle down...the more horizontal the better.

:edit: if you have a cage with a harness bar, the obvious choice is to mount the harness to the bar...

I would first weld a steel plate to the floorpan as you would do before you welded the main hoop to the floor. I would think the floorpan by itself is a weak spot to put a grade 8 bolt and hold your safety belts. Just my opinion though.
