What is the max rpm with stock roller lifters? I am looking at throwing a trickflow stage 2 cam and heads with shaft rockers on my stock shortblock and would like to know how high I could rev the sucker?

Well, i would have to say somewhere in the 7200 rpm range, but your trickflow cam will not make power that high so no need to worry about the lifters. In FFW Street Warrior, they use stock hyd. roller lifters and they are passing the traps at 8500 rpm, but the cam profiles, ramp rates, and valve train weight are totally different than a street cars setup.

What about the stage 3 trick flow cam? If I notch the pistons in the stock bottem end with the Isky tool would it clear 2.02's and a stage 3 cam?

basicly, i would have to say any off the shelf hyd. roller cam for the 5.0L would be fine with stock lifters. As far as having enough Piston to Valve clearance with the TF stg 3 cam, you would have to measure the clearances first, cut in moderation, and check clearances often while cutting until you get the desired piston to valve clearance.

The top NMRA EFI Renegade cars will run a stock type liftered hyd. roller came up to around 8,500 rpm or so. This is done with a relatively small lift/large duration cam and titanium valvetrain parts:D

It all matters what valve springs you use. If you use the stock type springs, you are looking at about 6200 in MOST applications. If you use the appropriate srings (as determined by your ramp profile), the only one who will be able to answer your question is goign to be
    a), you
    b) the valve spring cocmpany that you choose

Really you should be determining your shift point based on your power curve and the airflow of your motor, not on the lifters... but I am sure you knew that already, right?

we built the engine in brian mitchell's 2004 nmra renegade championship mustang last season and this one as well and he turns his stock lifters around 7800rpm with titanium valves retainers and locks..... very expensive to turn a hydro roller to those levels and for most not worth it....
