Bushings are in and they were just the ticket. I think I may still dent the tube just a skosh.

Also l am going to modify the tube a bit to fit the other side better. As it is, everything fits sorta close, but once you tighten it all up there is a bit of stress on the pipes and headers. I think it just needs to be about 3/4" longer in the straight section just off the driver's header. I will cut it there, bolt up the 2 bolt flange, and add a little section of tubing, tack it where there is no stress on anything, remove, weld and bolt it back together.

I got a new welder just after Christmas and it works so good I am itching to weld stuff all the time. Haha.

The piece I added actually ended up being larger than I originally intended. Once I cut it apart, I decide to position everything where it looked good and fit good.

On a side note, I am very happy with the new welder (HFT Titanium MIG170) . It took me a bit to get the settings right, but it works really well. It still looks like I welded it, but no welder is going to fix that. lol

The MS1 kit just arrived. This will be the third MS I've built. It will get the MS1extra code loaded in it and I will make the necessary changes to use my TFI ignition stuff.

So, I do not know anything about the Megasquirt systems, will this run off from basically stock Ford fuel injection type parts?
Do you build your own harness to all of the injectors, sensors etc.?

The MS platform has different types of systems available from a full P-n-P with correct connectors to just all wires and you add your connectors.

Yeah, you can. They are very flexible so you can mix and match parts if you want. Like using an LS style throttle body on a Ford or whatever.

I have done the harness both ways. On the original big block Ranger project, I used a basically stock Ranger harness and a MS to Eec-IV adapter board. For the others, I just made my own harnesses.

I built the Megasquirt today. It went well with no surprises. I might have time to test it on the stim tomorrow and then maybe to flash it to MSextra. It may be old tech, but it's still newer than an EEC-IV. Haha.

Hooked it up to the stim and the computer today and it worked perfect. Then I updated the firmware to MS1/Extra. Again, it worked perfect.

Next mission is to make the small internal changes needed to support the type of ignition I am going to run.

There are several ways to do this ignition stuff, but I have settled on:
    • using the TFI distributor with the module in place
    • using only the PIP signal from the TFI - using the TFI input settings in Tuner Studio
    • MS will trigger one channel the EFI Source Igniter (jumper wire from right side of R25 to X11 thru DB37 to igniter - igniter already has the required 330 ohm resistor)
    • Igniter will control high current to the TFI coil
TFI dist module -> MS -> Igniter -> TFI coil -> Sparkplug -> Boom -> smile on my face. Actually very similar (logically) to the setup I ran in the car with the big block.

MS internal changes are done and I put the old mounting plate on it to mount it in the car. This is the same way I mounted the previous MS in this car.

I started wiring the car for the MS install. It really went quick as there are not a whole lot of things that need to be connected in order for this to work.
    • TFI needed power, ground and PIP.
    • MS needed power, ground, hall sensor in, spark out.
    • Igniter needed spark in, ground and a lead to the coil (-).
    • Coil still needs 12v - I'm going to run a lead from an existing relay that used to power the electric water pump. This relay and the fuel pump relay are controlled by a single toggle switch. So, when the fuel pump is on, the coil also has power.
That is about all I need to make it run. I will add O2, 2 step and maybe an IAT input later. First though, it must run!

Everything under the hood is wired up and ready. I put a spade connector sticking out of the harness on the TFI's coil lead to run a jumper wire from it to the coil (-) so I can set the base timing. It will also serve as a way to make the engine run in the event of a MS failure.

Next move is to wire in the MS, connect to the laptop and load a tune. Then I will connect the TFI distributor, spin it and see if it will register anything in the Tuner Studio tooth logger. I am hopeful it will!

I didn't have a whole lot of time today, but I did connect the MS, plug in the distributor, and check the trigger log while spinning it by hand. Looked good to me. Then I turned on the coil with a grounded spark plug in the coil wire. Spun the dist, nothing. The spark output LED is flashing, so I don't know what is wrong just yet. I'll figure it out though.

    I feex.

Seems you should actually pay attention to the circuit board on the ingiter and not how the cover is printed.....

Works perfect when the input for 1 is on the same circuit as the output for 1. lol

Spun it with a drill and it looks excellent.
